Still Waiting - Seymour,TX

I gave birth to my son Sept 20th. he will be 3 months this weekend. My concern is I still have not had my period. I have been tested and I am not pregnant (thank goodness!!). I have spoken to my physician and he says it will come or he can give me a pill to get it going. Has anyone else had to wait this long? Don't get me wrong... it's been great not having it - just wondering.
thanks

It takes a while, especially if you are breastfeeding. I think it was 7 months with the first and 5 months with the second.

You are fine! Especially if you are breastfeeding. I had my son in July and still no period (I am breastfeeding). If you are or are not breastfeeding it would be wise to get on a birth control, as you can get pregnant without a period after having a baby... If you are breastfeeding there is a progestin only pill called Micronor that allows you to continue making milk and prevent pregnancy. It's a mini-pill that you take everyday (no week off). Relax and enjoy motherhood!

Are you breastfeeding? I just started getting my period last month when my son was 9 months old and it was at least 6 month before I got it with my other two. I think it's normal. I don't know if breastfeeding has anything to do with it, but I breastfed all of mine.

If you are breatst feeding, you may not have your period for a while (or at all until you stop breast feeding). I'm sure everything is fine. Just wait it out.

With my first, he was 20 months when I got mine back. Now my second will be 11 months on Christmas and we're still waiting. I only had four periods between the pregnancies. Believe me, I did go to the Dr. and every time he said I was healthy and normal. Enjoy!

Are you breastfeeding? Breastfeeding delays menses. If not, it is probably the hormones. I would enjoy the delay. It will come eventually. Don't assume that you can't get pregnant though.

If you are breast feeding it may not come back until you stop. Relax and enjoy that you don't have to bother with a period and the new baby! I breast feed for 1 year and never had my period and everything is okay now!

Are you breastfeeding? If so, don't worry. It is completely normal. I don't get a period until my children are completely done breastfeeding. My first daughter I breastfed for 18 months and didn't have a period till the month after she stopped. My second daughter is 11 months, I am breastfeeding, and no period! Don't be concerned.

I didn't get a period for about 3 1/2 months. I was told it was because I was nursing. Also a friend of mine didn't have one for 6 months!! So if your doctor isn't concerned I wouldn't be either.

Congratulations!
You should be okay. I had my precious little girl April 3rd, stopped breast feeding the beginning of September, and didn't have my period until November. When I went for my annual in October my doctor was not worried and told me it should come in a few weeks. If it hadn't come in 4-5 weeks to call her back. Just make sure you are using some sort of protection if you are not planning on getting pregnant soon. I had a friend that had not had her period and got pregnant.

I waited 9 months after my first and 18 months after my second. If you are breastfeeding it probably won't come until you finish. If you are not - I wouldn't freak out until 6 month after the baby is born.

You are very normal. If you brestfeed, it takes longer than if you don't, usually. I didn't get one for 8months, then only had the 1 for 3 more months. I've known women who didn't have their 1st postpartum period for a year. My younger sister, who exclusively breastfeeds, got her first postpartum period when her ds was only 3 months. Also, you can get pregnant before you have one, just to let you know.

I nursed #1 for 15 months and didn't get my period until she was 11 months.

#2 is almost 4 months and still no period - but again I'm nursing.

Keep in mind, you CAN still get pg. My dear friend was nursing, no period (well after a year) and got pg naturally with twins. So, if you are't ready for another baby, take precaution :-)

Are you nursing? My baby was born at the end of January, I weaned him 2 months ago and my period just returned THIS WEEK! Definitely use birth control, since you can ovulate prior to the return of your period. Carry feminine hygiene products as "back-up" and enjoy this lovely time off! ;-)

P.S. Mine has been exceptionally heavy this first time and I've read that's "normal", so be prepared for it.

Don't sweat it! Enjoy not having a period while you can! I have had 4 babies. The most recent was born May 30th. I got my first period 2 days ago. With all my other kids it was at least 4 months before I had a period. If you are breast feeding that can have an effect on your period. Just enjoy not having to deal with it and focus that energy on your beautiful little boy!

Hi there. I'm sure you are just fine. If you breastfed at all that will absolutely help to delay the period starting. I breastfed for two months and I don't think I started mine until somewhere around November or December and my little one was born in July. If your OB/GYN is ok with it, just try not to worry and it will be alright. Just keep him/her abreast as to what is going on.

My Daughter is also 3 months (September 15) and I also still have not had a period. Are you breastfeeding? If so that could very well be the reason. Sometimes it just takes a little while for your body to return to normal. So I would not worry too much about it.

Hi, my daughter just turned 9 months yesterday and I have not had a period since I got pregant with her. It is my understanding that when you are breastfeeding your period can be delayed. I personally have never had female problems and my period always came regulary and no problems also the first time we tried to get pregant it happened. This happened to my sister with both of her childern until she stopped breastfeeding after a year.

Did you have a c-section? With sections it can sometimes take longer...but I wouldn't worry about it. Anywhere from 2 months to 5 months is a normal time frame.

I didn't have my period for 8 months! Enjoy it! If you're breast feeding it usually takes longer to start again as your body gets the signal that you already have one mouth to feed, it's not going to start up the reproductive cycle again until the feeding schedule starts to get less and less. Kinda like natural birth control (NOT 100% tho). Don't worry and don't try to force it, it's normal, so just enjoy!

I am sure yo have had plenty of emails by now telling you that it can take A LOT longer than 3 months for your cycle to come back. I have three children - the first it took 8 months for my cycle to return, second 6 months and my new baby is also three months and I am still waiting. I nursed all of of them and I think this may add to the delay. One thing I can tell you, each time it came back it was VERY painful - for me anyway.
Good luck!

Dear L.:

One thing that influences when your period comes back is if you are nursing and how much. I exclusively breast fed my daughter for six months and had no period during that time. Once she started on solid food and cut back on the nursing I started having my cycle again.

Are you breastfeeding? Most women don't have periods while feeding. My son is 4 months and I did not get my period until the end of November (similar to your situation). Give it another month (if not breastfeeding) then go to your gyno and get prometrium to assist your monthly "curse" along (make sure your not pregnant then either).

wow you have received a lot of answers on this one..but I want to add that if it doesn't come back in a few months (and your not nursing) it could be a thyroid issue. Your thyroid can be checked with a simple blood test. 5% of women have thyroid issues after childbirth...I had no idea and suffered many months with the effects of a weak thyroid. congrats on your new baby!
