Still No Period

I gave birth to my first son June 2, 2006. I was only 28 weeks along. I had an emergency c-section, and gallbladder removal and liver biopsy all at the same time. My c-section wasn't the lovely "bikini" cut... mine is a 10" vertical scar. He weighed only 2 lbs 14 oz and was 15 1/4 in. long... He is now 11lbs 9oz and doing fantastic. Anyway, I digress... I wasn't able to breastfeed because of my own medical problems following his birth. I was hospitalized myself for 13 days. Im know it's common NOT to have a period when you ARE breasfeeding... but is it common NOT to have a period when you AREN'T breastfeeding? Could it just be because of my major surgery I went though?? Just wanting to pick your brains. Thanks in advance. - H.

If you are trully worried about consult a dr. I wouldn't really worry about it yet. My youngest daughter is 5 months old and I had my period for 8 weeks afterwards. Some people will bleed directly after giving birth others won't. If you need anyother advice you can e-mail me at ____@____.com

Hi H.. Call your doc to be on the safe side just to discuss (maybe they have a nurse line). But it is not uncommon for women to go a good length of time after having a baby before a period starts again whether they are breastfeeding or not. Plus your added stress of your own health issues will contribute to the delay. Hope that helps. :)

I would say it's quite normal for your period not to return for several months even when not breastfeeding. I wasn't able to nurse my first child and my cycles didn't return until she was six months old. If you truly are still concerned, go ahead and call your OB just for some reassurance.

I know that sometimes stress can cause your period to stop. I would talk to your doctor just to be sure.

Talk to your doctor. It could be as simple as a hormonal imbalance. Also, you say your baby was born at 28 weeks and he is doing great now, how long was he in the hospital and what happened. I ask because I am 25 weeks and have had preterm symptoms.

Hi! Your son was born not even 4 months ago. You have nothing to worry about. I had my daughter on August 14th of 05'. I breastfed for the first month before i literally dried up and was unable to continue. But i became pregnant 3 months later .. but the weird thing is i never once had a period in those 3 months!! It was kinda nice in a way, not having to deal with that for almost 2 years. Take advantage of that while you can.

I also think it's normal. I didn't get my period until my daughter turned 10mos and I had more or less stopped pumping/breastfeeding when she was around 6mos. I think it just takes your body time to adjust to not being pregnant and to get back to normal after having been through everything a pregnant woman goes through. That said, I wouldn't worry. ((hug))

It could just be that your body is still in shock. Call your OB, just to make sure. If I may ask, why did you have a liver biopsy? I have had one, and I can't imagine having all those surgeries at the same time!!
