I've had the Mirena twice now. The first time I spotted for three days or so. The second time was to replace the first one, and I spotted for about the same time.

The bleeding from insertion shouldn't last very long, not more than a few days. I would say that if it's been a week and shows no sign of stopping and is heavy like a period, then you really need to call your OB.

If it's time to have your period, you could very well still be getting your period. Not everyone stops getting their period on Mirena.

In any case, call your OB about your concerns.

Call your doctor's office and ask them the question you have asked us. Write down for yourself the date you had it put in and when your period started so you are clear telling them how long it has been.

If you have questions about your health you should be able to call your doctor's office and have at the very least, a nurse answer your questions. If they act like you are being annoying - get another doctor.

Not sure how long you've had it, or how heavy the bleeding is.

I was told by the doc that bleeding (even period-like bleeding) was common for up to 3 months after insertion. I had what I would call spotting for 4 months after Mirena was put in. But it was never heavy bleeding.

If you are having heavy bleeding, then talk to your doc. Otherwise, you just need to wait until your body is used to it.

How long ago did you get the Mirena? I only bled for a couple of days after mine was inserted, and even that was just spotting. I spotted instead of having an actual period once a month for about a year and I haven't had one since. Maybe once or twice a year I will get a very faint pinkish hue that lasts less than one day. I'd go back to the OB/GYN and make sure it hasn't moved or perforated anything.

Good luck

Never had the Mirena IUD put in.

If you are bleeding through more than one pad in an hour OR it smells bad - you need to go to an Emergency Room.

Otherwise, contact your doctor and ask when the bleeding should stop and when it's safe to have sex.

Good luck.

I had the Mirena put in this past winter. I bled for about two months fairly "period-like" the whole time. But, now I have a period that is a spot here and there for about two days and other than that, nothing. It can take awhile for the bleeding to stop. Everyone is different. Maybe a fun jaunt in the shower with your hubby?
