It could be asthma. Go to the doc.
Hello my son is 7 and had his tonsils and adenoids removed about 8 months ago. He had been breathing very heavily and noisy prior to his surgery. Afterwards it was like night and day, he was breathing fine. I noticed tonight that his chest was going in just like it used to before it almost seems like he is having a hard time breathing, I don't know. Does this happen ? Is it normal?

Not related to the tonsillectomy. You need to get him to the doctor. Something's wrong.
That did not happen for us. We had several routine follow-up appointments with ENT. Did you? Have you brought it up to the surgeon? That was not our normal. I would suspect he has just a regular, run of the mill cold.
"When in doubt, have it checked out".
Seriously! Especially with breathing issues.
I might even be inclined to video what you are seeing (sounds like retractions) and show it minimally to your ped...or perhaps you pulmonologist...if you have one.
Hope all goes well!
Tonsil/adenoid removal used to be so common, then it fell into disfavor, and now it's back up again. It's not a cure-all. A lot of breathing issues relate to inflammation, asthma, allergies, etc. - and all of that is on the rise. There are some natural and nutraceutical things you can do to boost immunity and reduce inflammation - with plenty of clinical trials and patents proving they are safe.
If he's in an acute situation, then have him looked at. But throwing more meds and surgeries at a problem doesn't always do the trick. I could give you some suggestions about things you can try at home that will not conflict with any medical treatment but may eliminate the need. It's not an overnight fix though, so if you need immediate results because the situation is critical, this is not the emergency approach. But it is long lasting because it supports overall immune system health.
