While I don't do any work from home programs, I did decide to start watching children from my home when my 2nd DD was 5 mos. old. I do not regret it even a bit! Yes, she's had to shard her time with Mom, but she has her best friends over every day and I get my share in shaping some adorable little kids' lives every day. It's not for everyone, but I love it!

Most are not legitimate, but there are some that are, including some internet-based jobs (but most aren't), and I would be **very** careful of any job that requires you to pay any money up-front to get *anything*, because those are almost always if not always-always scams.

Textbroker is legitimate (I've worked for them, but haven't written anything in a while, because life got too busy for me), and there are a few other companies like that that trusted people have recommended (I thought I saved the email, but don't see it). You can find them -- usually it's writing something or answering phone calls at a set time each day -- but you have to be very careful not to fall victim to scams.

This comes up periodically. The answer is yes, you can find a legit job (I have one). But it's not always easy, and you have to really consider what you need and what you can do.

So, that said, you can check out biztant.com, odesk.com and hiremymom.com. I got my job through hiremymom.com.

You will have to pay your own taxes and verify each job listing. Some are not worth the pay or scammy. Depending on the job, you may need a sitter or other childcare. I'm only able to do what I do because it's PT and it's all online (no phone calls) so I can stop/start, as long as my time is in and I meet my requirements. When I'm doing a writing gig, I will often work weird hours (like 2 AM) when the house is quiet.

I have two jobs. I am a lunch supervisor at my girls' school. It's two hours a day, Mon-Friday. I'm on their schedule, so when they have off, I have off.

My other job is for a local manufacturer (I'm a part-time employee on their payroll). They employ "home-workers" that make keychains, magnets or put UPC labels on their products. I also do quality control for them. I drop off/pick up my work almost every day. If they didn't have homeworkers, they would need 3 times the factory space. I had to know someone to get on the list to even be considered for employment there. I was on the list for a year before they called and I think I'm the last person they hired as a homeworker (that was 4 years ago). I've asked to put other mom's name on the list and they tell me they're not even accepting names.

So yes, there are legit work from home jobs. You just have to do your research.

I've worked for 2 wk at home companies. There are several I'd recommend, both w/their own pros & cons. West Corporation, Alpine Access, Live Ops & Telenetwork are 4 I know are legit. I worked for West & Alpine. West & LiveOps are very similar. When I worked for West (now things may've changed since wking for them 2006-2008) but I could make my own schedule, work as much or as little as I wanted. They finally did, however, enact a rule that you had to now work a minimum of 4 hours per month, which is basically 1 hr per week but it wasn't difficult or a big deal if I needed off work for a certain time or day, just didn't schedule myself or if it was almost last minute deal, I could cancel my shift 24 hrs min in advance. Plus, a cool thing is that you can check for any 'dumped' schedules too so I could actally add an extra schedule, even at the last minute, for extra hours. Downside is that you have to use a posted 'script' & have to read verbatim (Alpine you can answer however you like or sometimes it's just "thank you for calling customer service how can I help you?" rather than following a script). Also, for West & prob LiveOps, you answer calls for virtually any company, I mean ANY company...magazines, AARP, seminars, adult products, mail counting, cds or movie purchases, etc. but they're open 24/7 so you can wk whenever you want, whether it be 30 mins or a full 8 hrs or more per day but the pay (at least when I wked there) was per minute, per call so if you don't get any calls, you don't get paid but you CAN make a LOT of pay if you get on at the right time. Unfortunately, that's usually on the weekends or evenings b/c that's usually when people are usually watching tv the most to see infomercials or stuff to buy. Alpine Access on the other hand, pays hourly whether you get a call or not, you answer calls only for one company...mine was Office Depot customer service but you usually have a choice of what's available & avail shifts. Last year, they finally enabled us to add extra time if it's posted. Alpine is a lot more strict though. It's nearly impossible to get off work if it's during your shift, you can't just cancel your shift if you can't work or don't like the company you're answering calls for. W/Alpine, once you choose a company & shift, you're stuck w/it for a stated amount of time whether it be 3 mos, 9 mos or a full year & even though you're told you can change companies after that time, I never could get approved to change to a different company even though I was completely qualified. Telenetwork is more of a technical customer service. It really depends on what your needs are. Me...I like freedom to work when I want & make my own schedule & will take lesser pay to get that. If money is more of a concern for you, then you'll need to weigh all options. For any of these wk at home jobs, you'll need high-speed internet, a landline phone, phone headset & for Alpine, a USB headset too for training. All training is online though which helps. Remember, if a "work at home company" asks for money upfront then it's fraud. No company should ask for any money unless it's for a background check & that should be no more than around $40. Hope this helps! Feel free to write & ask any questions if you want more info, I'll be glad to try to answer any questions you may have about my experiences. Good luck.

Welcome to mamapedia.

If they are asking you to pay for something - it's most likely a scam.

Since you asked this question - there might be some moms who let you know about there MLMs.

You can google the company, call your better business bureau and do some research before you jump in.

I have two jobs that I get to do from home and one gets me out of the house in the evenings on my schedule.

1. I watch a friends 3 kids in my home. She gets assistance from Childcare Information Services PA's (CCIS). So I get a monthly check from my countys childrens center. Average is around $600 a month with $172 that she pays me out of her pocket. The only thing I needed to do was get my fingerprints done for an FBI background check and go thru an interview process. I am considered a Self- employed Childcare provider.

2. I am an Independent Partylite Consultant. It costs you nothing to start. You hold a starter show in your home where a local consultant comes in and shows your friends how you will earn income in your new job. There is no pyramid method to this and the support you get is amazing! If you do a couple shows and you decide that you dont want to do it. All the product that you receive is yours to keep. I did 1-2 shows a month from May 2011 to December 2011 and earned $1100 in cash and almost $600 in prizes which includes my kit and other rewards I have earned while meeting monthly sales contests. Mind you I did not do any shows in December. This job gets me out of the house and around other adults. I go to 3 meetings a month for training. But I decide when I go, when I hold shows so I never miss what is going on in my kids lives. There is money to be made in this business as I see the numbers others are doing. As you earn 25% on all that you sale. So you sale $1000 in one month would could be 1 show, 2 shows or even 2 shows and you get a $250 paycheck! If I have something coming up that I know I will need extra money I book more shows for that month. As far as I am aware Partylite is the only direct sales company that costs nothing to start.

I love both of my jobs as I get to do what I want to do and I know that I am home with my kids everyday but still bringing money into the home!

Hi ~ Most of the work from home jobs are not legit especially if the company is asking for money up front from you. A legit company will NEVER ASK you for money. A lot of the time you can google the company to see if they are legit also look them up through the Better Business Bureau. I know that Liveops is a legit work from home company you can google them :) The other legit companies are the direct sell companies (ATHome America, Tastefully simple, Scentsy) I worked for one years ago & the money is good if you work for it getting bookings for shows and getting a good turn out of people also it gets you out of the house for a couple of hours which gives you a little break : ) I have yet to actually come across a real/legit work from home company. Good luck

This question gets asked often and you will be approached by MLM/direct sales people trying to recruit you.

If you like selling, parties, recruiting, investing then go for it. If something sounds too good to be true.... you know it is. ESPECIALLY if someone wants some sort of investment or payment for you to get started.

Yes, I work from home with my hubby. We run our company from home and I manage all the financials, payroll, etc. It is a business we've been involved in over 20 years that is not direct sales, MLM. We are in the raw material industry (plastic) and deal with manufacturers.

Ideas for you are to think outside the box. What are you good at, what do you love? Babysitting is a good option. Many ex-teachers who now stay home are tutors. Sell things you no longer need on EBay or Craigslist. Shop Smart.

Good luck

I am a Nurse Practitioner and work 2 days a week in a private cardiology practice, but I also started my own home-based business with Ambit Energy last Spring.

I wasn't looking for anything when I discovered Ambit, but I immediately saw the opportunity in it and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Ambit Energy allows me to capitalize off the deregulation of energy (gas/electricity) and earn bonuses for gathering customers and helping others do the same and also the ability to earn money each time one of my customers pays their gas and/or electricity bill.

If you have an open mind about MLM/Network Marketing then you should definitely consider doing a business like this. Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki (the author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad) actually wrote an article about why they recommend network marketing. I can e-mail it to you if you like...Just let me know.

Anyways, feel free to check out my website http://sealteam1.whyambitworks.com or e-mail me for more information.

Good luck,
J.

I have tried lots of things over the years and have found that there are a small percentage of people who will buy from you unless you are an expert. People are so busy now that they don't want to host or go to home parties. There is also a very small percentage of people who would even think of doing an multi-level marketing type thing, much less sign up under you.

Is there something that you are good at? Cutting hair, tutoring, sewing (alterations, mending, or making clothes for odd-sized people), cooking or baking, interior design, finances (taxes, budgeting, etc.), childcare, running errands?
