Stay at Home Mom Needing Advice for 2 Year Old Twins

My twins have been going thru a phase when I put them down for a nap. They like taking their clothes off including the diaper and playing in their poop. Everyone I've talked to has said their kids have done this but that it was only the one time. My kids will do this every day if I let them. I usually go in and check on them quite a bit and can stop them before it goes too far, but this has happened at least a dozen times. And once one does it, the other one usually follows.

I used to be able to put them in their crib and let them play for awhile and go check on them every 20 minutes and try to get them to lay down again. But now I'm nervous leaving them alone for more than 10. I've tried putting them in pj's and onsies but them seem to be able to get anything I put on them off. I'm wondering if I should go buy some overalls.

Please help me, I'm tired of washing sheets every couple of days and the smell of lysol is enough to make me puke.

I'd appreciate any advice you can give.

What can I do next?

Some of the advice I've read for this type of problem was to put the diapers on backwards and/or use duct tape around the top of the diaper so the kiddo can't undo it. I got lucky, my daughter never went through this phase, so I don't have any first hand advice to give but I thought I would pass along what I had heard worked for other people. Good luck!!

ha ha!! My twins did this when they were two lots of times. They thought it was hilarious and fed off of each other. I started wrapping duct tape all the way around their diapers, being very, very careful to not get it on their skin, and then putting then down for a nap. That's the only thing that worked for me.

You might also try taking a picture of their next mess. Twins make horrible, naughty messes that are so hard to stop, but someone told me to just take pictures and put them in a "naughty" photo album that would be funny years later. ( I know it's not funny right now).

Yes I agree that you should separate them during naptime. I have two toddlers. The oldest went through that stage too. It is a mess. Thank God now she says, "Please change Mommy! Kaitlin poop" They can't sleep in the same room for naptime. I have to separate them. I would put them into clothes that they can't undo easilyas well. You might have to roll out the duct tape around the diapers. Good luck.

ugh, what a mess.. I feel for you. My daughter went through a brief taking off her diaper phase, but it was usually at night... so I'd just go in and put it back on her when I went to bed... no poop involved.

duct tape around the top of the diaper can work... though my daughter could still get a hand in there sometimes... I didn't want to make the tape too tight. another suggestion i have heard it putting footed pajamas on them backwards (cut the feet off).

good luck!

Thia is a stage most children go through and it is tough to stop when you have 2 in the same stage at the same time. You MUST discipline them!

I know that they may seem too young for discipline, but they are not. I have 3 children who have already gone through that stage and one more still to do so.

Is it possible to put them in separate rooms at nap time? If so, I believe it will be easier to keep them from doing this as it appears they enjoy playing with each other and copying each other.

If the discipline you use and separating them doesn't work after a couple weeks (You must be consistent during those weeks!), I recommend using duck tape and taping over the snaps on their onsies when you put them on the children.

HTH & good luck!

Have a GREAT day!
