I was laid off from my job in August, and was actively looking for work. At the New Year I realized that it may be a while before a job offer reaches me. So I pulled my youngest out of daycare and decided to devote my time to him. But the bills must be paid. I want the best of both worlds...anyone know any info about working from home?

What can I do next?

I've been doing in-home childcare, babysitting on weekends and cleaning houses for 3 years now. I babysit a 7 year old overnights on Saturdays, watch a 3 year old on Tuesdays and Thursdays and clean houses (taking my 3 year old with me) on Wednesdays and Fridays. I"m off by 3pm every day right now. :)
Once we move in April I'll be doing in-home childcare again full time.

Faye,
I'm excited for you. Some of the most successful people in business started out their current path in business because they were laid off from their job. They realized that there are no guarantees in the corporate world. So, they made their own way. What did you do? Can it transfer to a job that you run yourself? Can you become the "boss" and hire others to do jobs for companies? You get paid, and pay your employees out of that money. They can be runners for offices, taking things to the PO, bank, etc. What are you good at? What would you want to do? I love it that the entrepreneurial spirit is reviving again in our country! Granted, it may be because of the poor economy, but I think it is a wonderful thing. Our family has 3 adults (my husband, our oldest son, and me) who own their own businesses. It is a great pardigm. We are thrilled that our son is on this path. He is learning so many things, while he is still young (18). My advice to you is to know what you are good at and what you enjoy doing. Then, build your business around that. When you think of ideas, post them here so that we can offer counsel about what to do next! Best wishes!

Hi Faye, congratulations on making the decision that your child is more important. My husband and I made that decision over 15 years ago when my oldest was born, one of us would always stay home. We had some challenging times but we made it through.

In the past some of my work from home jobs have been:
selling children's books and games, tupperware, and "adult pleasure" products! All of these included me leaving the house every weekend, "flogging my wares" in other peoples homes hoping they will buy something. Oh sure, I justified it by saying "oh it's a girls night out" or "it's so much fun" BULL! I did not like hauling 3-4 containers of goods to and from my car up flights of stairs, down flight of stairs, standing in front of a room of strangers telling them how wonderful their life would be if they just bought a fridge smart! I did not like leaving my family every Friday and Saturday night to "earn a few dollars". I needed a better way.

In walked Isagenix and network marketing. I was introduced to a nutritional program that helped me lose over 40 pounds, that helped my husband gain healthy muscle (10 lbs of it) and allow my kids to have only well days. I found it in Isagenix. AND there is a business attached. I could consume products that made me a better mom AND stay home with my kids or better yet, take them with me! I show other moms how to build a financial future WITH their kids not without them. Last night there were 7 children in the living room and 4 moms at the kitchen table. The 2 year old wondered in and out the 5 year old called for water and the rest, well, you could hear them laughing and playing. Every mom in the room felt that they were there WITH their family making a better life.

Faye, what do you want to do?
What are you passionate about?
What type of life will you jump out of bed for each day?
What will make you happy and FEEL like you are making a difference?
What kind of hours do you want to spend on your new venture?
Are you entrepreneurial?
Are you self motivated?
Are you coachable?
Faye what are you willing to give up your life for...because you already are?

Only you can decide what to do next. Ask around. Find someone whom you trust, whom you can relate to, whom is doing EXACTLY what you want to be doing and learn from them. My coach is a mom of 4 kids, married for 15 years, who earns a million dollars a year RESIDUALLY (meaning she DOES NOT have to "work" for it, it comes now regardless). But she still works because her passion is to change the lives of families. When I started I was a school teacher who wanted more. Now I am a professional network marketer. My days are filled with "play dates", lunch with friends, evening family meals, volunteering at my daughters' schools, volunteering at the Red Cross...Well just yesterday my day was like this...
8 AM Coaching call
9 - Returned calls
10 AM - reflexology appointment in my home
12 - lunch with my husband
1 PM left for my daughter's basketball game
3:30 PM - spoke on the phone with a mom who wanted to get started on our M.O.M program (Moms On a Mission). Enrolled her, her husband and her son on our program.
5 PM dinner with the family
7-9 PM M.O.M.s meeting (see above)
9-10 PPM curl up and cuddle on the couch with my daughters.
AND I GOT PAID the entire day!
My life is wonderful.

So I ask you, what do you want and how can I help you get it?
