We will be going to the State Fair with my 4 yr old this year. I haven't been since I was about 6 yr old. My question is should I take an umbrella stroller for him or do you think he could walk the whole thing? Any other tips about going to the state fair with kids?

What can I do next?

Take the umbrella stroller... .just in case. REALLY.
My son is 4... and he gets tired walking all around a fair... especially if it is nap time. My son will NOT keep walking, if tired and he's so big I can't carry him.
If anything, you can use the umbrella stroller to carry things for you... that you get from there.

An umbrella stroller is much easier to have around, versus a tired 4 year old. Especially when walking around a lot.

all the best,
Susan

I'd take a stroller. We go every year and LOVE it. There is a LOT of walking.

Better to be safe than sorry for his little feet.

Carry plenty of $$$. It gets pricey but it is a lot of fun.

Most definitely take the stroller. Also, if you plan to visit the animal barns or petting zoo, have your kid wear sneakers, not sandals!

Here's a list of discounts and promotions:

I would also take a look at their schedule. I had a friend who decided to go on a school day one year, thinking it wouldn't be as crowded as a weekend day, and just happened to go when the Jonas Brothers were there. Obviously, it was one of the most crowded days, and her kids were too young to even care about the Jonas Brothers.

my 3 year old walks it, both kansas and MO, but we bring her wagon anyway for drinks. It is crazy expensive for water and other drinks. I dont mind paying for the food, I mean, what's the point of going to the fair if you dont eat fair food, right? but I refuse to pay 3 bucks for a bottle of water. And if we decide to stay longer, she can sit down and nap.

A stroller or a wagon would be best. I think we will bring our wagon this year with our 4.5 & 8.5 y/o ( it is more for our 4.5 y/o). It is also great for carring your purse & any thing you might buy, win or get for free. I'm guessing most state fairs are huge. I know the one in Kansas is & it is too much for my youngest to walk. If you take a wagon make sure you have a blanket for your 4 y/o to lay on if he gets tired. Also bring a water bottle for your son so you can refil it at waterfountains instead of buying bottled water. Don't forget the sunscreen, maybe a hat & an umbrella (if it looks like it might rain). You may want to invest in a wrist teather or harness so he doesn't get lost in the croud!
God bless!

Take the stroller! When he starts whining you can let him hop in, and you can also use it to haul the stuff you get, win, pick up, etc. around.

A stroller or a wagon. Lots of kids like those better, and I've seen lots of parents use them at fairs, the zoo, etc.

Definately take the stroller. Chances are your little guy will need a break at some point.

We take our kids to the fair every year. Here are a few things we do that really make the trip the best it can be.
-Set a budget and get the cash out before you go. That way you won't break the bank, easy to do!
-take drinks with you, no need to pay for water.
-If you plan to eat there take snacks so you won't have to spend money on them.
-Everyone wear the same color.
-First thing, take your son to the police headquarters. They usually register your kids and it's a great time to indroduce your son to a police officer and explain to him that if anything were to happen he would want to find someone dressed like "this" to help him.

I would also go to babies r us and buy a wrist cord. Not sure what they are actually called but they are velcro bands that go around each of your wrists. They have an expandable cord that comes out of each that attatch to eachother with an s hook. That way if your son walks he will always be close. And they are "cooler" for bigger kids than the teddy bear back pack.

Have LOTS of fun.
