Hi, I was hoping to stay home with my son and start a inhome daycare. I was wondering if there were requirements needed. I mean do I need to be certified and guess if there is anything else I would need to know. Thank you for all the information. Everytime I ask I get such good advise.

What can I do next?

I am a licensed provider in the Milwaukee area. Great advice from the other moms. You will need a few courses a 40 or 50 hour class on child development and another one on infants, CPR training, have your house inspected, background checks etc. The process takes about 3 months. Every year they are making rule changes so try to stay current before the inspection. Good luck to you!

N.- What city are you in? All cities have diferent requirements:
basically- city license, background check, CPR/First aid, and then your building code requirements (fire, health inspections, handicap ramp)
Let me know if you have any questions-H.

Hey N.,
I think that is awesome that you want to stay home with your child and most of us have to do something to help out with the bills so this is a great way to do both. I decided to start an inhome daycare when my oldest daughter was born. I have been doing it for 3 years, I am licensed and on the food program. I live in Nebraska so I can not give you advise on what requirements you would have to fullfill to run a daycare. I know that in Nebraska you can watch 3 children including your own without being licensed. I would contact health and human services for rules and regulations. I have loved being able to stay home and raise my children the way that I want them to be raised. It takes a special person to be able to watch children for a job and if you have the patience and the love for kids you will do just fine. I hope that things go well for you, our children grow up so fast so enjoy every minute of it. If you ever need to talk about a crazy day send me a message I know exactly what you will be going through. I watch 6-7 kids from 8-5:30 everyday all 4 years and under then 2-3 school agers from 3-5:30 but I almost think that more kids is better than less because you have dynamics and they entertain and play with eachother so you don't have to give one child your full attention all day long. I hope that this helps. Many Blessings on your new adventure.

I would go on the internet and look up Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services. Click on Child Care. This should tell you what requirements you need depending on how many children you want to care for. I am trying to get licensed in Michigan. They require me to get licensed no matter how many children I choose to care for. Some states do not require you to be licensed if you care for less than 6 kids. I think it helps to be licensed no matter how many kids you care for. Someone recommened for me to see an Accountant. I guess there are certain things you can claim for your taxes when you run a business from your home. I might be able to claim a percentage of my utilities. I'm not sure yet I haven't met with an Accountant.I hope this information helps you. Good Luck
