Standing in Bathtub

I have been anticipating for weeks now that my daughter- 8 1/2 months old- would stand up on her own. Now she has. And now she isn't happy in the bathtub because the sides are curved and so she can't stand up. Well, I don't think it is really safe anyway even with the rubber mat. So how do you discourage your child from standing up, or do I just have to wait out this period and hope she gets so frustrated after several nights of this that she gives up?

What can I do next?

WOW! At her age, it could be a little more difficult, but I would try explaining that it could hurt her! Also, try and get her interested in sitting again, praise her for sitting up like a big girl, and just reassure her that it is good to sit in the tub! I hope this all helps! My daughter didn't start standing in the bathtub until she was over a year! It was easy to explain it, and then give her another chance to stay seated and take her out of the tub (no play time)! I guess you can try that, just be sure to wash her up right away and then if she stands tell her that she has to get out if she does it again! Babies understand more than most adults give them credit for! I hope this all helps! And good luck with keeping your daughter safe in the tub!

Hi,
Both of my kids stood up in the tub. My daughter, (now 16 months) is doing it now. I just keep my hands near her, so if she slips, i will catch her. I also keep many bath toys in the tub with them, so it keeps them occupied. Hope this helps!

One thing that kept my son sitting (or at least kneeling which I preferred because it is not as far to fall) was buying those little bath letters by Sassy. He moves them around on the walls towards the bottom of the tub.

You could try getting a bath seat, but it may not serve you for very long as many of them have a fairly low weight/age limit. There really isn't much you can do other than be consistent and teach her to not stand up. With my daughter, I just sat her back down each time she stood up and told her "no standing." I'd distract her with a toy or another activity. She loves playing with wash cloths and cups in the bath so I bring a few extras into the tub with her. I give her a cup without a lid for her to learn how to drink using a no lid cup before I start sudding her up so it serves a dual purpose. :)
