Does anyone know what would be the best way to get ground in mud out of a white turtleneck, with a blue stripe down the sleeve? My 15 year old daughters cheerleading squad had a pep rally on Thursday outside, and she decided the best way to get the mud off of her hands from doing flips was to wipe it down the front of her turtleneck.... and the best part is she didnt show me until today! Any help would be appreciated!! I dont want to have to throw it away!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your help! I pre-treated the shirt with liquid Tide, and then added the new stain release tab to the wash, and took the stain out on the first try. Thanks for the advice!!!!!!!! It looks as good as the day she got it! She also got a nice little talk about how a cheer uniform isnt a towel... well see if that went in one ear and out the other!!

oxyclean is great and it is safe for colors. either buy the oxyclean spray or use the traditional oxyclean which comes in powder form and soak it in hot water. I once got out red wine that spilled on a white shirt I was wearing.

Fels-Neptha Soap (spelling ?) It is a laundry soap bar you might have to use a lot of elbow grease to rub out the mud but it should work. they launder as usual. It has removed blood, grass stains and red clay dirt from my sons baseball uniform as well as others clothes. Good luck. J.

Clorox 2 works best for me. It gets most anything out. If it doesn't work the first time try it a second washing and it will continue to work on the stain.

Hi E.~

You got some interesting suggestions that I will be trying myself on my little boys clothes...

But as for stains on the cheerleading uniform, we used to wash our uniforms in laundry detergent AND Cascade (the dishwasher detergent). We couldn't use bleach because of the other colors on the uniform, but the Cascade worked wonders to keep our uniforms white. Not exactly sure how it would work on a dried mud stain, but just thought I'd mention it as a general way to clean the uniform.

**Just a side note... my cheerleading days were before the days of OxyClean (which I now use), so it may work even better than the Cascade did... but we used what we had!

Good luck! Keep Cheering!!

For mostly white clothes with a little color, I rub Oxyclean and Clorox "Ultimate Care" bleach into the stain, creating a paste. Let sit for an hour or so, then wash. Good luck!

Hello E.....Hope this will help you...as I use it on just about everything....WD40....will not stain material further and it works excellent on anything that may have oil or blood as well...Also, I use sugar and real lemon to whites as well...sugar first..and then take a half of lemon and work the sugar in...I have been successful so far using either...Good Luck!!!

The Oxy Clean Boil should work...... Boil a big pot of water, then pour it into a large tub. Add a scoop or two of oxyclean (it will bubble over if the tub is not big enough!), and then add the clothes. Let soak overnight.

Good Luck!

There is a stain remover I use to get the dirt
Out of my sons baseball pants called Grandmas secret
Spot remover, or something close to that. They sell it
At bed bath and beyond in exton. Its in a small bottle
But a little bit goes a long way and I find that when
I have stains that nothing else works on, this works!
Good luck! Also its color safe, in my experience, and
Its only a few dollars for a small bottle, however, the
Small bottle lasts quite a long time, its deceiving! :)

I LOVE the Shout gel. It has removed more ground-in mud & grass stains for me than I can shake a stick at. It's also removed old formula stains that were set in from our first daughter and then pulled from storage for our twins who happen to be 4 yrs younger. It works. Very well. Good luck!

E.,
I don't use any special stuff for stains. I always use Tide and if there is a stain, I pour some of the Tide right on the stain, and let it it sit for awhile. OR pre-soak the sweater in a clean bucket with a cap of Tide and then launder as usual. Good luck getting the stain out!

whenever I've had a tough stain... I put a couple huge scoops of oxyclean in the smallest load of the washing machine, and let it sit for like 2 days. I'll go agitate it a few times, and usually the stain comes out! good luck!

I've done this before for my daughters white clothing with some sort of other color or pattern on it... I have an old spray bottle that I mix a small amount of clorox bleach, and mostly water. Then I carefully spray the white area only wherever the stain is. I might let it sit for a little while, or throw it in the wash right away then, it just depends on the severity. I normally keep a close eye on it, if it sits though. Just to make sure it's not running into the other colors, and I don't want it to sit so long that the bleach eats a hole through it! Also, I normally use cold water to wash everything. i found that if I used hot on my whites (like you are supposed to) The hot water seemed to "set" the stain more in my experiences. The cold water works well b/c then if for some reason I need to spray it again and let it sit and wash again for a really tough stain, I have that option... and the hot water did not already set the stain in. I haven't had any problems with mud stains yet... but I know my sister uses oxi-clean. She mixes the powder with a couple of drops of water to make a thick, chunky paste. Then she rubs it into the stains on her kids clothing and lets it sit for a while before washing. This can also discolor your clothing so just beware of getting it on the blue stripe as well.

I agree with the other poster of putting some liquid detergent directly on the stain & letting it sit a while. In addition I would recommend the Tide stain booster tablets. You put in the wash in addition to detergent and they help as well.

I'm surprised that no one recommended the Clorox pen. I have been using it for years. The situation you are describing is exactly what is was designed for. To treat specific white areas without damaging colored spots.

I always use a stain pretreater (Shout, etc). But occasionally there are spots that just won't come clean. This always works on any white area. Just be careful to only apply it to white areas. I always fold it over lightly so it touches another white area.

Good Luck!!
