I know that they have animal repellant that you can buy at Lowes. You spray it around and they don't want to come near.
We just had our home re-roofed and now we have problems with squirrels trying (and succeeding) burrowing under the new shingles. They push their body under the new shingles, and sometimes get stuck. They are at the edge of the roof (gutters, valleys.) I never had a problem with them on the old roof before, just in the garden and trees. How do we get rid of them?

This sounds like a question for the roofers. I would call them immediately and tell them that their roofing job is letting squirrels in, and that you expect them to come back and fix it. Why would any kind of shingle be this susceptible to an animal burrowing under it -- and what is attracting the squirrels, anyway? If the roofers just dismiss it by saying, "Oh, yeah, that happens sometimes" -- tell them it is not acceptable. No more acceptable than a roof that lets in rain.
Check your contract with the roofers and call soon, before their guarantees expire. Don't let them tell you you owe more money for what sounds to me like something they should fix for free.
We live on a wooded lot with a lot of wildlife. We keep the trees trimmed back so squirrels can't jump onto the roof. Hubby also keeps some De-Con on the attic just in case.
My neighbor has squirrel probelms. The do not have the trees trimmed back and squirrles run all over their roof and I can see squirrel homes from my office window in the roof. The owners are clueless.
If you did not have the issue before, I would call the roofing company and inquire about it. It doesn't make sense that it would start right after you got a new roof. Maybe there is a smell attracting them or something. Still, they should not be able to burrow under shingles if shingles were nailed down properly.
Make sure that you trim all of your branches so that they are not hitting or near the house. The further away they are, the less the squirrels can get to the roof. That's all I got. Sorry.

If you didn't have the problem with the old roof - I would call the roofer and tell him/her what is going on and have them fix it. To me that signals that the shingles are not properly aligned or connected to the roof if they can burrow under it.
We don't have this problem at our house - yes - squirrels run on our roof - but they do not burrow themselves under the shingles.
There is also a product at Home Depot and Lowe's for keeping creatures away. I don't remember what it is called - but if you go there and tell them you are having problems with squirrels on your roof - they will tell you the product!
GOOD LUCK!!
I agree that with Leigh - get those roofers back out there and have them secure the roof better. If they try to hit you up with more money, or refuse to do the work, report them to Better Business Bureau. Tell the guy this too if he gives you static. Roofers really don't want negative reports on BBB.
Good luck!

I work for a roofing company. You need to call your roofers back and have them come and secure the shingles. It sounds like they didn't do a very good job the first time.
Well whoever did the job should be accountable. That's my opinion. They obviously didn't attach the shingles securely enough to prevent it. So if the critters get stuck and croak, are you supposed to put up with the smell?

I'm not being funny here, my hubby bought a Squirrel Gun (kind of like a BB gun) and would sit on the deck or in the garage and shoot them. Those damn squirrels were making us nuts. They would make their way into our attic and get trapped, a couple died, imagine the smell. A couple we had to cut holes in the walls and set free and shoo out of our house. I HATE SQUIRRELS. Fortunately, we have moved to a newer neighborhood with very few large trees.
My suggestion is to have your trees trimmed and trim them way back where they are near your house. Don't forget, the little buggers can jump.
Good Luck!
