im super white, wear black dresses and get compliments all the time...OWN IT=)
My husband's company is having a formal get together with his co-workers and their spouses too. My skin is super white (hubby jokes that I am albino LOL. So I'd like to go get a spray tan. The only somewhat dressy dress I have is black and I think I look awful with my super white skin against the black fabric. I am so white that you can see my blue veins sometimes in the arms. So a little color would be nice for once.
Does the spray rub off on your clothes or sheets like the lotions do that I've tried? Are they drying on the skin?
EDIT: I know this has nothing to do with my question but a little background: I am very self conscious of my skin, I've been teased and taunted ever since I was young and even into adult. Just before I had my first kid ten years ago, a woman I used to work with hated me for having WHITE skin. Her daughter in law was the same whiteness as I am and she didn't want her son marrying her for that reason. She made this very clear to whenever she would come into work. I didn't actually hear anything from her but people were telling me that she was saying the same thing about me that I need color. I once told her we can't choose the color of out skin, we get what we are born with. She threw her head up and laughed. This woman was about mid 40's at the time. She was french indian so she's naturally darker complexion.
Thanks moms!

I'm super glow in the dark see through white... and I learned to embrace it ;)
If you're as white as I am, sorry, but any kind of faux tan is going to make you the color of an oompa loompa.
Rock the whiteness!! Natural white skin against black is beautiful, like a little porcelain doll :) Do you realize less people have super white skin than any other skin color? Embrace your uniqueness!! Tanning is a fad... I bet you anything whiteness makes a come back... and you and I are ahead of the curve :)
i don't know anything about spray tans, but I'm proud of you for not going to a tanning bed!!! They are SO bad for you!!
I'm super white too and I embrace it.. Yes, I have people call me Mandy Mayo, Caspar, and other stupid names. I can't say it's never gotten under my skin, but I figure all those people who are out tanning will be regretting it. They are at higher risk for melanoma and not to mention that tanning increases wrinkles!
ADDED: I just saw your story... I'm so sorry that some have teased you for it. You're so right that you can't chose your skin color. I hate it when someone remarks with the comments I listed above. Hey, if someone has nothing better to do than tease a grown woman about her complexion they must not be so great themselves!! Best of luck
I still wear black against my fair complexion, so even if you don't spray tan you wear it with pride Mama!!!! Good luck!!!
I am not super white, but I don't get very dark on my own either. I kind of have freckly skin, so it doesn't tan super well. I decided to try spray tan since I had a coupon last summer. I really liked it and it was the darkest I have ever been in my life...and it looked natural!! I would definitely do it for a special occasion. You are darkest when they first spray it on, but you cannot get wet for 12-24 hours or so. I noticed some came off on my clothes and sheets after the initial application, but once I showered it didn't smear anymore. It does lighten up some after you shower, but it is kind of
sticky and smelly so I was ready to get that tacky feeling off of me.
If I were you I would get the spray tan the day before your event, shower and then go. You will look radiant and it shouldn't smear by then. You could probably even ask if they could test spray one arm or something to see if the color is something you feel will look good on you. Good luck! I think if it will make you feel better about yourself and enjoy your event more I think you should go for it!

I too am oober white, so for special events (wknd at the lake, wedding) I go to the salon that does spray tans. It only takes one, it will last a faw days and you'll look great in those pictures that are forever. Yes they smell, they get on your sheets and it's annoying to avoid water for the few hours after BUT I always think it's worth it. If the event is a big enough deal. Myself, I wouldn't do it just for a Christmas party unless your husband is heavily involved and you're going to be a social butterfly with all the important people. I'm always just a fly on the wall somewhere close to the buffet! LOL
PS: I'd 'one up' the spray tan and just get your makeup professionally done ;)
I am very pale as well! I have been in several weddings, which I have gotten a spray tan for each one. For the last 3 weddings (mine included), I decided to get it professionally done where a specialist will spray you instead of going into an automatic booth where you have to turn after the machine sprays you once. (haha - I'm picturing the show Friends right now where Ross turns the wrong way and gets oober tan on one side and stays pale on the other!)
I recommend the professional way where they spray you themselves. Yeah, they may see your boobies if you decide to get those tan, but who cares! and you can keep your underwear on if you want. They make you feel 100% comfortable by talking to you so you aren't nervous or imbarased. They also will make sure it the tan is even and they will "fix it" the next day if needed (though I have never heard of them needed to fix one of their tans).
If you decide to go through with it, make sure you wear NO LOTIONS and that you have no soap residue on you - this repels the tan and it will streak in the area that is not completely clean.
Good luck with your decision!
