Spotting Midcycle

Several months after my son was born I started spotting around the 14th day of my cyle. After several months of it progressively getting worse, I went to my OB GYN. They felt my hormones needed a jump start and put me on the pill for several months. Once I finished the pills(it was actually the ring), the spotting stopped. Now here it is a year later and it has started again. I don't want to go back on the pill because they make me VERY moody when I usually never get that way. Also, the pill kills my labido:)
Has any one else experienced this and what was done to fix it? Thanks, A.

I was on the pill years ago. We tried several pills, all made me moody to point I could be laughing at a joke and just burst into tears. Also, the hormones caused discoloration on my face. This last time the doctor recommended the ring (can't remember the name). It was fine for the first couple of months, but by the last two, I was emotional. Snapping at the kids yelling at the dogs. It was awful. We switched to a pill for two more months, but it was just as bad. It seams that with me, the mood swings get worse the longer I take it. Odd, I know. That is why I don't want to get back on hormones. I guesss I want to know if the spotting is a sign of something more serious or is it just hormones out of whack. And is there a natural way to fix it. Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I did some more research on the internet and found that spotting mid cycle can be a sign that your body is gearing up for menopause. I have decided to have the novasure procedure done. It will significantly lighten my periods if not stop them all together. The best thing is it only takes 90 seconds. Thanks.

I had the procedure done on 4/29/08, went home and slept off the volume and pain pill. Woke up at 7pm that evening feeling great! I won't know till the end of the month about my period, but the procedure went great. There was some painful cramping right after the procedure, but literally lasted less then 6 hours and I was given a pain pill to help. I would definetly recommend it to anyone who is having heavy or irregular periods that no longer want to have any more children.

So, it seems that you almost have your "friend" every 2 weeks? Fun. Are you breast feeding? If so, that can be a culprit - damn hormones.

I'd call the OB/GYN again. The pill you were may have just been wrong for you. I've found that the pill actually makes me LESS moody during my monthly and puts my cycle right on track.

Good luck,

T.

I have had the opposite problem; the pill worked for me for years. After 3 kids and 7 years off the pill, my periods got out of control where they would last for nearly 2 weeks, very heavy, etc. My Dr did not want to put me back on the pill since I'm over 35, and sent me to an OB/GYN who specializes in bleeding issues.

Anyway, I wound up with an IUD, which is supposed to work really well for most people (and reversible if you want more kids; we don't). There can still be some spotting but maybe this would work for you.

As someone else said, different things work for different people. After 6+ months I am still having crazy periods, but at least they are not heavy like before (I would go through a pad an hour for about 3 days, and forget even trying tampons!). If after a year things are not straightening out, I will be asking her about removing it and going back on the pill (she said, unlike my usual doctor, that I could go back on; my risk factors are low). So, definitely talk to your doctor about your options, and maybe ask for a referral to another doctor that takes more cases in this area.

HTH!

I used to be like that. Started the pill. I think we tried 4 different ones before i found one that didn't make me crazy. I think it makes a difference in some people if it's a one dose or a 3 dose kind, .... i think the last one i tried was the 'mini' pill (forget the brand). You can always try those injections but if they make you crazy you are stuck for awhile. good luck

Did you just try one type of pill? There are so many out there right now. You may have to try a different one. I know people react differently to different pills. You may want to try a pill that only has a small amount of the hormones in it. Talk to your GYN again. Mention that you didn't care for the last pill they gave you. It also takes a few months for your body to get used to the pill. If you bloat, or are irritable at first, give it a little time. It may go away after a few months.

Hi:) I have no advice for you, but have had the same trouble for years over about 6 different pills, the patch, and the Depo shot. If you do find something hormonal that doesn't seem to mess with your head and your libido, please pass along the info!!
Good Luck:)
