Sports Bras - Pittsburgh,PA

My goal is to tone my tummy a bit more so I can run in my sports bra and pants. I get so freaking hot w/a top on.

My ex was over and I mentioned that and he said the same that it was underwear and that it's the same as a man running in a speedo. I disagree. I told him that a man's package is a sexual organ and breasts are not. He disagreed which promoted me to look up the definition for breasts in the dictionary!!! I think we both think we won the argument, but I say if you can do it w/out looking gross go for it! Even the man in the speedo... if you got it flaunt it!

But anyway, I think running in a sports bra is totally acceptable and can't wait to get to where I feel comfortable, even though I could probably get away w/it. People wear way skimpier bikinis than a sports bra and shorts would be.

They're super skinny and barely have boobs...they've probably also never had children. That's how they do that. ;)

I've done it on occasion and simply think of it as a bikini top. The first time I felt so weird! And I was just around the house. I do it when I'm working out though and don't think anything of it.

I think it depends on where you are and what kind of physique you have.

If you're at a race, and you look like a jock, it's okay to wander around in your sports bra.

If you're wandering around the upper east side in New York City, you shouldn't be clad in a sports bra.

I used to mow the lawn/run in a sports bra alone when I was in middle/sr high and could actually pull it off (or so I thought, I probably really couldn't!) but it would be in the high 90s/low 100s in the shade and just too hot.

I do not have any "oh, weird!" reactions when I see super-toned women running in shorts and a sports bra. I do have reactions when I see less-than-super-toned women doing so. I fall into the latter category and will never wear one without a shirt over it (not with my post-baby flappy belly and stretch marks!).

I always used to run in whatever I could find (random shorts that I was just as likely to sleep in, t-shirts that are too big, ratty tank tops, etc.) but got some running shorts and a racerback tank on clearance and feel so much better running in them. I have to double up my sports bras so never worry about how many layers I'm wearing, but the made-for-running tops keep me cooler and I'm thinking of actually investing in proper workout wear this year.

Bottom line, if you're uncomfortable, don't do it. If you care about how other people feel and you know they won't be comfortable, don't do it. :)

Men run shirtless and no one thinks anything of it. Most women need more support than that, but I think a sports bra is the closest thing to shirtless a woman running can get away with. In NY, women don't have to wear anything on top at all... the Supreme Court there said that if boys can go topless, so can girls. Doesn't happen too often, but it does sometimes!

This is how I explained it to someone else. When I work out I wear a sports bra type top and bike shorts. I was asked don't you feel like it's just underwear. Think about underwear; a bra and panties and isn't a bikini swimsuit pretty much the same thing and lots of people have not trouble wearing that.
