Well you can either put manager or something impersonal like that on them, or you could call the business and ask who's attention it should go to....
I'm sending out sponsership letters for a upcoming event I have but, i have no idea who I should put as the receipent. Do anyone have any information on who I should send these to? I have local companies names but, I don't want them to be trashed because they are mailed to the wrong individual.
Thanks everyone sending it over to the Marketing Department actually got the job done!!!
Thanks again!

It is better to call and talk to people on the phone or deliver them in person. Get the person's name that you should speak to and ask to speak with them on the phone and find out a time that is good for them to deliver the letter. Or, if you must mail it, ask them if it would be ok if you mailed it and then tell them that you will follow up with them in (pick a time frame, like a week or two weeks..) Good Luck!
I would look on the companies' websites for the director of marketing (maybe public relations) or director of development. Those two areas are usually in charge of choosing events to sponsor.
When I did fund-raising in college, I CALLED the companies first, talked to someone, or at least got the name of who I should mail it to. THat way you don't waste a stamp (if they don't donate) and you find out the right name and they also know to look for it in the mail. Often, it's better even to go to the location with your sponsorship letter in-hand and shake the person's hand and tell them about your event you want them to sponsor.
