They need to be brought to a boil, then cover with a lid and the heat lowered to simmer , until they are done.
My store was out of split peas, so DH got yellow split peas instead. They WONT cook. I had them on warm all night long and they are still firm and crunchy !!! How do you cook the yellow peas? I cooked it just like normal yesterday - brought it to a boil, boiled all the ham off of the bone, sliced up the ham, boiled in all the spices, then noticed the peas weren't cooked AT ALL. So, I left it on warm all night. I've never had to do that before. They still aren't cooked.
Okay, all better. I brought it to a boil and only had to boil it about 15 mins and everything is fine and dinner is saved. Thank you

Try turning it up to high for a couple of hours. I've never had a problem cooking them. They should cook just like the green ones. 8-)
putting it on "warm" only warms it... not cooks it.
I never even knew there WERE yellow peas! LOL
