My daughter is going to the hospital tomorrow for more testings....first i wanted to find out if anyone has ever had to deal with this in a infant....
Second of all they want to put her to sleep and i am so scared right now!!!!
Third she is not allowed to eat after midnight and i nurse her, she doesn't have to be there till 12 noon....worried about her being hungry, what can i feed her before midnight other than oatmeal to stick on her tummy? Please ladies i really need advice now more than any other time! thanks alot and have a Great Night.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well Ladies.....Today was Really SCary for me mostly but i am sure if my daughter was older it would have been to her too!
But St. jOe's is THE BEST HOSPITAL EVER!!!!! i mean that!
we went to the Day Hospital for Children and had to wait alittle while longer than promised but it wasn't excessive....She ended up being very patient with me and just relaxed once we got there, we watched some tv and was talking and playing with some nurses....then she went off to sleep.
Easier for them and me to deal with the testing process...they took her asleep and with me knowing how they were gonna do it i couldn't go and watch so since she was sleeping i felt really good and once they got there they called me like every 10 minutes to let me know she is fine and i tell ya....what a champ my little angel is, she never once woke up and once they put the gas on her she was really asleep anyways LOL....but they put in a IV and drew some blood and the Catscan all at the same time and she didn't feel nothing so first of all i am sooooo happy about that but i did cry! i cried the whole time she was gone and even before she left but was So happy on her arrival back.....omg i've never been away from her and it felt like a whole year.
I really don't any test results back until friday the 1st but the dr. is confident that she will be fine! the nurses were so good and even took care of me too! they took her IV out when she returned before she woke back up so really all in all she didn't have to go through nothing, no crying and fighting or nothing, thanks for all the support and i'll be back i am sure about this and let you know more! THANKS

M.,

I am so sorry that your baby is going through this. My son Ian (5 years old) has hereditary spherocytosis. This is a hereditary blood disorder (my hubby's side of the family) and one of the symptoms is enlarged spleen. The reason why my son's spleen gets enlarged is because his red blood cells are abrnormal (elongated w/spikes) whenever he contracts a virus or infection, the red blood cells go through his spleen to filtrate the virus/infection. The spleen does not recognize his blood cells and destroys them. He also gets really jaundiced (yellow skin & eyes). We discovered that he had this when he was 3 months old and suffered from enlarged spleen and screaming. I hope your testing goes well. If it turns out that your child is suffering from a blood disorder which is causing the spleen to enlarge, I know the name of a fantastic pediatric hematologist here in Tampa. I will keep your daughter and your family in my prayers. Good luck!

A.

I have no experience with that but wonder why you can't reschedule for a day when you child can be the first done in the morning. That would be horrible to have a hungry infant for such a long period of time. I think that is excessive to make a child so young go without for so long. It's going to be a long morning for you. I would hold off or go light on the evening meal as to make her really hungry tonight, that way she'll have a full tummy at the last possible moment before you cut her off. So sorry you and your daughter are going through this.

hi M.,
I haven't had to deal with your exact situation, but
my duaghter recently went to ACH to have a hernia repair done. They put her to sleep, and she did really well. It is very scary, but drs and nurses are the best at what they do, and I know that everything will be fine.

What I don't understand, is why they would have her testing done so late in the day. When we went, it was according to age. Not being allowed to eat is because of the anesthesia, but noon is so late for a child that young. My daughter wasn't allowed to eat after midnight, but could drink up to 2 hours before, just NOT milk but like diluted apple juice.

Good luck to you and your little one.

Please let me know how it goes, and how things work out for you. Please email me if you need to talk
