I am looking for a recipe for some yummy, pretty spicy chili. Anybody have any?

Add some jalepeno peppers. cut them up and put them in the chili. The seeds will make it spicy. The more you add the spicier it will be. I would only add one if you want a little kick. Instead of stewed tomatoes put some salsa into your recipie along with kidney beans and whatever other beans you like. That way you do not need to cut up green peppers or onions. also do not forget the tomato paste. i like using ground turkey instead of ground beef in my chili. for spices I use onion powder, garlic powder,chili powder,black pepper and a little bit of sugar to cut down on the acid from the tomato sauce. This is something you could cook all day in the crock pot.
I have a big family, so this will make a big batch. It is very yummy and you can adjust the chili powder to your taste.
Food Bank Chili
1-2 lbs Hamburger -depending on how much meat you like
1 large yellow onion
1 large green bell pepper
2 big cans of Kidney Beans
2 cans beans (your choice)
2 cans diced tomatoes w/jalapenos*
1-2 Tbls garlic powder and garlic salt
2 Tbls Chili powder (at least)
Dice onion and bell pepper and cook on medium heat. Add and brown/cook hamburger (no need to drain) add spices and stir. Dump all cans in w/out draining! Cook on low-medium for as long as needed/wanted.
*I have used the "italian" style crushed/diced tomatoes as well...they both work.
There was a time my sister and I had to utilize our local food bank...this is where we got this recipe and thus why it is named this:)...this has been a family favorite for years. It is so easy and so very tasty. Some Jiffy corn bread and your golden!
Ohhhh I have one for you that is not only spicy, but easy since it goes in the crock pot. I usually double the recipe since we have a family of 7 but I'll give you the regular recipe.
1/2 onion diced and frozen
1 lb lean ground turkey (I use 93%...Walmart sells a 3 lb package of lean ground turkey for less than $6)
1 can dark red kidney beans or black beans (or whatever bean you like)
1 can diced tomatoes with jalapenoes
cayenne pepper
chili powder
Brown turkey in pan. While turkey is browning sprinkle it with cayenne pepper (the more you use the spicier). While that is browning, place the frozen onions on the bottom of the crock pot, top with beans and tomotoes. Drain the grease from the turkey, add to the crockpot. Don't mix anything yet. Sprinkle with chili powder...I use enough to cover the meat on the top layer. Cook on high for 3 hours and it's done. Only stir once the cooking is finished.
We usually add some shredded mexican cheese and some tortilla chips or you can scoop it with chips. Enjoy!!
I have a recipe that can be made both mild (for people w/ issues with spice) or spicy spicy! I actually make two separate chili dishes, one for my husband and one for me. For my husband, I use ground bison, for me, I use ground round; I'll include the recipe I use for my husband's because his is more traditional (I don't like the texture of the beans so I keep them out of mine) but before I put the recipe down on here, I want to give you a tip: before you make your next pot of chili or any food at all, take your dried spices out of the cupboard, pour a small amount into the palm of your hand then rub your fingers in it then smell the spices; if you can't smell anything, throw out the jar it came from and replace it; jarred spices should be tested every 6 months and discarded if need be.
Bison Chili:
2 pounds of Ground Bison (Whole foods carries it)
2 15 ounce cans of Chili Beans and kidney beans*
1 15 ounce can of black beans*
Simply Organic all purpose seasoning
1/2 small green pepper
1/2 small yellow/sweet onion
4 cloves fresh garlic**
1-2 Jalopeno Peppers, seeded and diced***
Chili powder (to taste)
Kosher Salt (to taste)
Freshly Ground Black Pepper (to taste)
2-4 15 ounce cans of Tomato Sauce
1 small can tomato paste
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-Chop the onion and green pepper into medium dice (if you like chunky chili) or a fine dice if you don't want chunks of onion and peppers; chop your jalapeno peppers too
-In the bottom of a deep sauce pan, pour in some extra virgin olive oil and turn on Medium heat; when the oil starts to "dance a little" (about 5 minutes) add the onion and the peppers, stirring with a wooden spoon; sprinkle in a little kosher salt and pepper and turn heat down slightly
-Chop the garlic into a small dice and add to the onions and peppers, turn down heat a bit more
-When onions are translucent, add the ground bison and cook/chop until brown and in small to medium chunks
-Add the beans (drain the black and kidney, and drain some of the liquid from the chili beans) and add the sauce, one can at a time; you don't have to use all four; if it's too thin, remember it will thicken as the cooking process continues and add 1/2 the can of tomato paste to start)
-Add Kosher salt, pepper, chili powder and all purpose seasoning to taste
-Simmer on medium low to low for 2 hours, stirring occasionally and tasting often to make sure it is seasoned the way you want it to be.
* Add one can/additional pound of meat
**Use less if you aren't a fan of garlic; I love garlic so I use a ton of it
***If you leave the seeds in the jalapeno pepper, it will be spicier; use latex gloves (w/o the powder inside) while cutting the pepper because it stays on the skin for quite awhile and can burn your eyes if you happen to rub your eyes before the oils of the pepper are gone. This is why I don't use jalapeno peppers, I just use a ton of chili powder
Serve with corn bread! Enjoy and you should have plenty for leftovers the next day. :)
ok, so this is totally cheating, but I always do it and recently did it for our work potluck and everyone loved it!
1 lb. ground turkey-browned
1 can tomato sauce
1 can black beans
garlic-own discretion-I like a lot of garlic
minced onion-own discretion
chili powder-I don't measure anything so you'll have to use your judgement
Tapatio-that adds the spice-add a little until you get the desired spicyness!
That's my easy spicy chili, and it's healthy!!
From my mothers cookbook..
Chili con Carne
1 lbs beef chuck chopped coarsely( a mixture of meats can be used)
1 cup white onion, chopped
1 large clove garlic crushed
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp oregano, dried
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups cooked Pinto or black beans (optional)
in Texas we do not add beans to our chili.
To control the heat
Option 1
Medium heat use ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Spicy hot ½ tsp Cayenne Pepper
Super hot 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
Option 2
Medium heat whole Jalapeno seeded (remove seeds) chopped
Spicy hot 1 whole Jalapeno with seeds , chopped
Super hot 2 whole Jalapenos with seeds, chopped.
In a large saucepan with lid, brown the meat with the garlic and onion. Then add all of the spices continue to brown for a few more minutes. Drain all of the fat. Add tomatoes and enough water to cover the meat mixture. Simmer for 1 hour. Add beans and cook for 5 minutes.
Other meats that can be used with the beef.. Ground Turkey, Venison, or Pork.
