SPF Swimwear

I'm thinking of buying SPF swimwear for my two-year-old. She inherited her Daddy's very fair complexion and unlike him, loves being outside :-). I am vigilant about sunscreen but for pool/beach purposes, I was thinking of trying out the SPF swimwear. My only concern is that she would be warm in the long sleeves.

Anyone care to share their experiences with SPF swimwear?

Is it worth the extra cost? Are the kids still comfy?

What can I do next?

I bought a short sleeved UPF 50 shirt at Target for a very reasonable price. I therefore only put sunscreen on my son's arms and legs and face. Not all over his chest and back and shoulders. My son is very comfortable. If I could afford it, I'd buy the long sleeved ones and the shorts and everything! I do NOT like smearing so much sunscreen on my child.

My kids always wear a short sleeve shirt and shorts combo for swimming that has SPF in it. They've never complained about being warm. I suspect the water cools them down. You can get the suits in many places, so shop around for a good price. I don't think I've ever paid more than $25 for a swim outfit.

Oh, I just noticed you asked about long sleeves. I've heard they can be a bit uncomfortable in the sand, with sand grains getting into the long sleeves.

You could do the top that is a shirt & board shorts. Plenty of coverage & protection.

I'm not sure what extra cost you are referring to. Those types of suits are sold in sets pretty much everywhere.

They are great, you can buy them at Target, I think they are on sale this week. You only need to put sunblock on her where the swimwear doesn't cover her. But long sleeves may be too warm and uncomfortable for her, get the short-sleeved ones. Buy the sunblock they're now selling made to be sprayed on wet skin, it is awesome and she will stay protected.

Hi E.S, my kids have very fair complexion as well and I have always put them in swimwear that covers their entire body. One of the reasons why I have them use full body swimwear is because my children also have very sensitive skin that are prone to allergic reactions to sunscreen. The brand of swimwear that I use is called Coolibar...more specifically is their Infant Swim Romper. The quality of their products are great. I love that it has built-in SPF 50. My kids love wearing them both to the beach and pool, plus they have never been fussy having them on. They have cute designs and can be pricy but, I feel that it is totally worth buying. If you check their website from time to time, they have them on sale. I hope this helps. Take care!

I didn't think it was that expensive, Target carries cute SPF swimwear for reasonable prices. We go with the shorts and t-shirt type so I only need to put sunscreen on her face, arms and legs where the short sleeves don't cover.
Last year's beach vacation was 95+ degrees all week and she never complained about being too warm, but I was very happy not to have to rub sunscreen on her sandy skin all over!
I bought them big enough to last us through this summer as well.

The only thing I wish is that they stared making some for adults... but all the surf shirts are just too tight for my figure.
Good luck.
