For my daughters 3rd birthday, she is giving her pacifier's to "a baby that needs them" since she is a big girl. We are wanting to give her a special gift. Any ideas would be helpful, because I imagine it is not gonna be easy giving them up.

What can I do next?

I saw an idea on Super Nanny a while back that was great. You prep the child by building up the 'Binky Fairy' for weeks in advance. The 'Binky Fairy' takes the used binkies to babies who are in the hospital and need them or to children who have lost theirs. You put all of the binkies in a gift bag and hang it outside over night. The next morning you go look in the gift bag and there is a special gift that the 'Binky Fairy' left. A new dollie, blankie, stuffed animal, a talking book, play groceries...anything similar to her favorite toy now. Whatever it is it needs to be able to fit into the bag you put the binkies in the night before. It's also fun to put confetti (or 'fairy dust') in with the new toy.

Good luck.

My daughter got her ears pierced when she gave up her pacifier. That is one thing that she really wanted. She was 2 1/2. The only downfall is that it hurt so bad, but she really likes it now!

It's hard for me to say, because I don't know what your daughter likes, but I agree that it should be something that "big girls" have. It should be something that she'd be proud of.."look, I'm a big girl..." kind of thing. Mabey some form of jewelry that is real gold, (they do make that for kids..I think..I have a boy, haha) but anyway, just anything that you know that she would love and be proud of and that would make her feel like a "big girl".

Hi- what about taking her to have her fingernails and toenails painted? My daughter and I did that as a special reward once and she LOVED it. Every time we pass by the store she mentions it. That's something really special that only big girls do- there probably won't be other little girls in the shop at the same time.

Good luck!

C. M,

Well I was lucky My little girl did not take a pacifier. But I use to work in a Daycare where I had mothers tell me fun stuff they would do. One parent told me that they took there son to a Build A Bare Workshop, they let him make a bear and put his pacifier in the back of the bear with a wish. That way he had his pacifier with him but only he new where it was at. I don’t know if that will help you any but I hope that it will. Also watch the farms sings the best time to take the pacifier is when there in the feet. If not you will have a had time. Good Luck and God Bless.

That's about the age my little boy gave his up for good. It was so sad, he had chewed a hole in the last one and I said "that's it, Cade. That's the last passy." And he stood in front of the trash and looked at it then threw it away. I think when they "get rid" of it themselves it makes it alot easier and they learn how to let go of things, not just have them taken away. I think something that you have never got her before or something she has been wanting that's for "Big Girls". Some people don't think it's a good idea to reward kids with gifts but that is a hard thing to do for her. It's her comfort, so I say go ahead and get her something for being such a big girl.
