I was watching the one last night where they had their "first night away" from the baby. My husband and I were practically crying because it rang so true! We just had our first night away from our baby a couple months ago (LO was 9 months old at the time) and it was so hard. The part where she found the sock in her nightie was hilarious. -- all we did was walk around the little town (we went to Estes Park) and talked about him. "Oh... he would look so cute in that" or "oh, he would love to see the elk" --- and we talked about how cute his little butt was at dinner. how much he loves nanners... how much he would have loved to try one of dad's noodles... wondered what he was doing. hilarious! So what was your first night away like?

What can I do next?

It's not just the 1st night. My kids are 4 and 5 and when we get time away all we talk about is the kids. "I wish Isaiah was here to see that train, JJ would love this store, We need to come back here with the kids, I wonder if the kids are sleeping." It's silly. I know they don't think about us near as much as we think about them.

I haven't seen that episode yet, but I'm looking forward to watching it on Hulu. We left our oldest with my FIL for the first time when he was around 4months old. What did we do? We went to see Titanic. You know that movie, boat sinks, lots of scenes with panicking mothers and frightened children, that one scene towards the end of all those people in the water and a mother frozen, holding her frozen baby? Remember that? Yeah, THAT'S what we chose to go see the first time we left our precious baby at home. I will never forget how traumatized I felt...and I couldn't leave that theater and get home fast enough!

We have to make a pact NOT to talk about our son or the company we both work for! Double whammy--lol
But I remember talking about him all through dinner that very first :night out" when he was a baby!

My husband and I had a night away from our first baby when she was 18 months old adn it was horrible! It started out well, we went to a nice restaraunt for dinner and then to a "theme" hotel, our room was an underwater cave theme. But after about midnight, the fun ended. I got really sick (must have been the fancy food) and spent most of the rest of the time in the bathroom. The bed was round and not long enough for my husband's legs to fit on comfortably so sleep was nearly impossible. AND of course I was worried about my baby, mostly I worried that she was keeping my in-laws up all night (she was) and that she would be a bear the next day (she was). We didn't have another night away (as in all night long, we still did date nights) from the kids until we had a 6 year old and a 3 year old, and that trip (3 whole days!) was wonderful! We had a great "second honeymoon" and the kids were happy and well-behaved while we were gone!

OOOH Great question:)
Our first night was acutally a couples only vacation to Cancun. Yep! Non-stop kid talk - "G would love to swim w dolphins" "Can you imagine how much fun D would have splashing in that little pool" ETC. It took two days (of the four day trip) to de-kiddify (is that a word?).
Needless to say, that is still the timeline - anything less than two days - it is all kids, all the time - LOL!
