Spanx and Pantyhose

Hoping I get some answers before tonight!

Have to go to husband's office holiday party (yes, after the holidays) tonight. Since I've been stay-at-home for 12+ years I had to go purchase everything - dress, shoes, most importantly "shapewear."

I just decided today that since it's only going to be in the upper 20s tonight I don't want bare legs. If I can get away without the shapewear I'll just do the hose (control top), but if I need the extra fat-squishing help how do I wear the two together? I'm thinking pantyhose underneath shapewear, with the hopes I don't have to go to the bathroom until I get home.

Anyone have some experience with this???

ETA - I have the spanx-panty (actually Maidenform brand) and I have the hose already. I'm not going out to buy anything else - between kids sports and playdates today I'm stuck with what I have for the party tonight. I was planning on bare legs until I realized the weather tonight is REALLY cold.

Wild Woman - I don't know how I'm over thinking things. Just a simple question about how I can keep my legs warm while keeping my tummy sucked in!

So What Happened?

So I ended up just going bare-legged with the shape wear panty. I did make my husband valet because it was about 25 degrees outside.

And the legs at the party were about 50/50 hose vs no hose, so I really could have gone either way (for the record, they were sheer black - def not nude). So next year when I have to dress fancy again I'll know what to do!

never seen them together.....

Kohl's has some great options....you can get the long short type that go from under the breast to the mid-thigh....just put the nylons or pantyhose on UNDER them...

Seriously though?? Stop over thinking it. Be yourself.

Perhaps I misunderstand. If you have a choice to wear only one or the other with pants I'd wear just the panty hose for warmth. I have a type of tights that I wear under pants. One brand is Cuddle Duds. I have also just wore regular tights under clothes.

WherE the over thinking comes in is you are beautiful whatever you wear. No one is going to care if you do or don't wear shapewear. Others will be concerned about how they fit in or are experienced enough to not care. Be yourself and have a good time.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing shape wear over pantyhose.

Hosiery with a nice dress is not out of style, at least not here in Dallas and look at Kate Middketon!

At our dressy parties at the country club and out to eat at fancy restaurants, women wear nice hosiery with nice dresses.

One thing to remember... A lot of women will wear shape wear and unknowingly have little " rolls" protruding from the top or waist... However the shape wear is made.

Dress the way you want to dress and however you feel the best. Don't worry about the rest, I'm sure you will look beautiful!!

Yes...put the pantyhose under shape wear.
Take a large purse in case you want to ditch said shape wear mid party.
Have fun!

Just an FYI, pantyhose is "out" these days, so if you want to still wear something over your legs, wear black tights or black pantyhose, which is very "in" and great for colder weather. Wearing the hose under the shapewear will create a smoother effect, however many shapewear brands have an opening at the crotch, so you don't have to take it off if you need to pee. In which case, wear the pantyhose on the outside, so you only have to take them down..... Have FUN, and enjoy yourself! Just remember - you DO work full time, you just don't get paid with a check..... and aren't you lucky with your husband's job, it affords you and your family to raise your own kids.... :) <3

I'm feeling your pain. I just went to a holiday party last weekend, & it required a new dress, which required new "hold me in" garments!

I found the ____@____.com't remember the name brand of the undergarment I bought, but it was a tube shape that went from just below my bra line, to below the hips. I really liked it, because instead of stopping @ my waist & pushing everything up, giving me a big belly, it evenly squashed my entire midsection & was very slimming.

Underneath that, I wore shaping pantyhose - Assets brand. Sizing was true - I didn't feel like they were too small, and the waistband didn't feel like it was cutting me in half. It gave even more definition for my hips/thighs/lower belly.

I looked like a million, & spent under $40!! Good luck. T.

Instead of pantyhose, buy thigh high hose.
