Hi Moms,

Does anyone know of a good place or person that can teach my children how to swim? We have a pool with a baby guard of course but the time has come to teach them how to swim.

Any refferals will be great!!!

Thanks!

I can highly recommend Ann's Swimming School on SW 72nd St (Sunset) in South Miami. Both my 4 year old daughter, who was very afraid of even getting her face wet, and my 2-year old son learned to swim there. The only thing is that the classes are over for the season - the new season starts in February. The courses are 2 weeks long, you go every day for 40 minutes. Moms are not allowed in the pool, but trust me, that's better for the kids, because they can focus on learning. My son has severe separation anxiety, but by day 3 he ran over to the teachers, eager to begin his lesson. They have tons of fun. At his age, the focus is not on real swimming, but on safety issues such as them being able to float above water, finding the edge of the pool, climbing out by themselves, etc. Basically, knowing what to do if they ever end up in the water unintentionally.
Annsswimmingschool.com. I've also heard good things about Ocaquatics, but don't have any personal experience with them and don't know their schedule... I'm sure you can find them on the web as well.

Ann's Swimming School - my 2 yr. old son just finished 2 consecutive weeks there and I thought it was excellent. He is now in their maintenance course 1-2 X/wk. This is the 3rd swim school I tried and definetly the best. I highly recommend it.

Prior to Ann's we tried Swim Gym but I hated to have to go in the pool - don't think he learned much while I was there to comfort him and he could hang on to me. We also tried Bubbles - they come to you in your private home pool. A bit more expensive but the teachers are very nice. I only recommend them id you are planninng on doing everyday if not I don't think its worth it children need that constant repetition.

My daughter became a fish with SWIMAMERICA. They had instructors that went to the school and taught them for 2 consecutive weeks daily. I believe they have a website. Hope that helps some. I also took my daughter to Miami Dade College Kendall for lessons. She really enjoyed that.
