It could be acid reflux. Over the counter pepcid or prilosec might help. In the meantime avoid spicy or acidic foods as they will make it worse.
Does anybody know what causes a sour stomach? I have been taking antacids and Pepto and this seems to work, but I have been taking this stuff for 2 weeks. Well, let me re-phrase that. I have been taking antacids for 2 weeks, but not every day. Some days I do really good but other days I do horrible. Everybody @ my work thinks I'm pregnant because I had heartburn and nausea for like 1 week a couple weeks ago. Now I am done with that and now it's a sour stomach. Today it was everything I ate. I do notice when I have my lemon water (just water with a 1/2 lemon in it) makes it worse. I am not planning on drinking this and if I do, I plan to only put 1/4 of the lemon in.
Anybody know what this could be??

I recenly had my gallbladder taken out b/c of gall stones about three weeks ago. The symptoms were sudden, but persistant. I was vomiting every other hour at night or felt as if I was going to. Also, I had very bad pain on my right side near my rib, especially when pressure was applied to it. I went to the hospital and that very same day I had surgery to remove it. I'm not saying that your issue is the same as mine, but knowing the symptoms and reading about someone's experience can be very helpful! Hope all is good in the end!
It could be a lot of things. If it goes on long enough try talking to your doctor. My sour stomach, which has been going on since September, is thought to have been caused by a faulty gallbladder. The stomach is still sour but I have to give it until May to see how my system reworks itself. It could be acid reflux, it could be an ulcer, it could be tons of things - but I would discuss it with your dr.
Victoria,
I had the same symptoms during the first trimester of each of my pregnancies. So, about a month ago, when I got the same symptoms all over again, I thought "Oh, no! I hope I'm not pregnant!" because that was the only time I can remember having a sour stomach like that. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative, so I realized that it was my nerves. I was nervous about an upcoming business presentation. So, maybe you are nervous about something in your life that you don't realize yet. If that is the problem, then once you figure it out, your stomach will feel fine again. I hope that is all it is!

I Know when i eat peanut Butter or Drank milk i would get a sour stomach so i i did away with both i hardly ever eat them
I would suggest you try going without food with acids in them for about a week and see if it helps. All citrus fruits, strawberries, tomatoes, etc.
Try staying away from fried foods and foods with a lot of oils in them as well.
See if this doesn't help.
Unfortunately when I was pregnant I got heartburn from milk but could eat chili, spagetti, etc., with no problems.
I had similar symptoms about ten years ago. I went through tests for gall bladder, and I can't remember what else. Everything was negative, but the doc thought the symptoms corresponded with an ulcer. He treated me for that (a specific course of antibiotics) and it was like magic, all better.
If your symptoms don't go away, see your doctor.
It could, of course, be a million different things! First thing is to change your diet. Don't drink anything too acidic, high in fat, salty, or spicy. Absolutely no fried or greasy foods either. Try things like bread and butter, plain rice or pasta (Yummy..I know...) or anything plain. If that helps, chances are you have too much acid in your stomach. You may need to consult a doctor, or a diet change may do it for you. Personally, when I get sour stomach or heartburn, I have to take Pepcid AC. It's the ONLY thing that works. Regular antacids just don't do it for me! Play around with your diet and give it a few days. If it doesn't help, call your doc.
As other moms have said, it could be alot of things, so I'll throw my two cents in. When I had sour stomach, it turned out that I wasn't (for some reason) making the Hcl (hydrochloric acid) I needed to digest, so my food was just sitting there. To test the theory, I drank a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (in a glass of apple juice, which still was gag-worthy! LOL) - it kick-started my digestion and Hcl production back up.
You might also consider taking a zinc supplement - zinc is what your body needs to manufacture the Hcl in your stomach, so it might just be that you've got a vitamin deficiency. Once the ACV experiment worked, I started taking zinc and after a few weeks, it was like my body remembered what it was doing and I could stop taking the vitamin too.
Good luck, I hope it turns out to be something simple!
