Sorry for the Personal Question..... - Flushing,NY

How often do you ladies see your gynecologist? Every six months or once a year? My doctor tells his patients to come in every six months, but like every other woman, I hate going. I'd rather just go once a year, but is every six months the norm? Or is once a year ok?

What can I do next?

I have always only gone once a year, and recently I saw that if there is no family history of cancer you can go every 5 years. I doubt I ever wait that long even though there is no history in my family, but I have waited as long as two years once.

Once a year. The exam is called a "yearly exam" so, there you go :)

I'm surprised that your insurance covers more frequent visits without an actual reason for them since it's beyond the medical association guidelines.

Is he giving you a PAP every 6 months? New guidelines don't even require every year?

What exactly is he checking on? Unless you have an ongoing condition that requires more frequent checks, there's no reason to go so often if you aren't comfortable with it.

Once a year, unless I have an issue that needs to be checked out. How old are you? I've never heard every six months for an exam, unless they find something that needs to be monitored.

I have never heard of going every 6 months, unless you have a specific concern, such as you've had an abnormal pap in the past. Otherwise, it's once a year. Even when I was on the pill, my Gyn wrote me out a full years' worth of packs on the prescription, so I only had to go once a year. Sounds to me like your doctor is trying to make some extra $$.

When I was on the pill my doctor wanted to see my every six months. I think to monitor blood pressure and side effects. When not on the pill once a year.

I haven't been to the gyno in almost 2 1/2 yrs and I haven't had a pap in that long either. I've had my kids, my tubes are tied and I'm not on any birth control so I don't see the need in going that often unless I notice an issue down there. NO days, you can go to a family practice Dr for your pap too.
