Have you tried the willow lozenges from the health food store? They are pretty soothing. They have cherry flavor, too!
I have a sore throat- nothing else-- is there anything I can take over the counter? With the holidays I doubt my doctor is even in the office and if he is, I really dont want to take the baby with me to the office. Any one know of anything I can take?

You can take Tylenol and Motrin, and together. It will work wonderfully.
hi J....you're probably 100% again by now, but my favorite remedy didn't show up in the advice to you, so i'm just putting it out for future:
a little glass (jelly jar size) of naturally sparkling mineral water
juice from half a lemon
a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
and a few tablespoons of raw (it's important that it be raw - not heated) honey
it's easiest to stir it up if everything's room temp...or it mixes well in a blender...first thing in the morning and/or last thing at night (an hour before/after drinking or eating anything else) is best...to keep your throat soothed you can also sip it throughout the day...
all the best...K.
Dear J.,
Rinse your throat with warm salt water. Not too much salt. C. N.
hopefully you are feeling better by now, but when i came down with the FLU when my girl was not even two weeks old. I was told i could take Mortin up to 1800 mg within a 24 hr period and the baby wouldn't even know the difference. Tylenol rapid release worked well too without any harm. I took alot of Triaminic too, pregnant and nursing and none of the doctors seems worried. Little one is now 1 year old and growing rapidly! :)
tylonel products (double check w/ doctor or nurse first) is about the onlt thing that is safe. Gargling with Alum is excellent, but the taste is something you will want to prepare yourself for! It is really wise to try and never take any medicines if possible or use certain lotions or creams for that matter! If you have concerns about nursing and product usage try these sites: Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and Environmental Working Group(EWG). Both are excellent sources for keeping products and food safe for nursers and anyone who wants to be healthy. Good Luck!

Gargle salt water. Minimal salt, but that will make your throat feel better.
Hi J.,
I'm sorry about your sore throat. I am not sure what medicines you can take. But have you tried gargling with warm salt and water. In about an eight once cup of warm water add about two table spoons. It will be salty. At first gargle about every 1/2 hour or hour if you can. This will help the inflammation in your throat. Also call your doctor's office and leave a message with your question someone should get back to you. Hope you feel better.
Hi:
As a general rule, you may want to consider seeking to cure the underlying problem rather than treating the symptom with medication. Whether the sore throat is the result of a bacteria, virus, pollen, or etc., what the sore throat is telling you is that your body considers something as an allergen.
My suggestion to you is that you visit NAET.com, order and read the book "Say Good-Bye to Illness." If you want to do more research on the subject, you may also want to go to narfnet.org (Nambudripad Allergy Research Foundatin). There are now over 9000 NAET certified practitioners world wide. I go to Dr. David Karaba in Fullerton and absolutely love him. His phone number is ###-###-####. One of the wonderful things about NAET is that for children or the infirm, they can be treated through a surrogate, i.e., you. Here is the description paragraph from the book information.

Hello. You can gargle with salt and water every hour or two and it will make the sore throat go away eventually. It is best to start this as soon as you begin to feel a scratchy throat. In health. J.
I hope you are feeling better now, but if not I strongly recommend taking a spoonful of coconut oil a few times a day. This is an all natural way to knock out a sore throat amongst other things and is not only safe but beneficial for your lil' nurser... I strongly recommend not taking any meds over the counter or not while nursing. I know with a little one it seems like we can be desperate for some relief when ill! Coconut oil is an all natural micro biotic... I take it at the sign of just about anything. It's a semi solid oil so I enjoy putting it in a smoothie which may also be soothing for your throat...(fruit, couple tablespoons of coconut oil, o.j.,etc.)
Hope you feel better!

I've been fighting the same thing. I've had to fight off 3 sore throat episodes since my son came home from the hospital 10 weeks ago. I've been taking airborne, vitamin C, and Zinc. The vitamin C and Zinc really help. Most losenges provide temporary relief, but they don't get rid of the sore throat. Make sure you are getting as much rest as possible. Ask dad and family to help with the baby. Try to control any stress you might have because the combination of those two things will weaken your ammune system. My advice: Lots of water, the obvious gargling of salt water, Vit C and Zinc. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
