Hello! I have a really strange question. My left breast hurts. If I touch it or if I just brush up against something, it is really tender. It has been going on for a couple weeks. It didn't get any worse or better when I had my period. I am 33, my youngest is 6 and there is no chance of pregnancy. I have no other symptoms. It isn't an awful pain, its just there, if you know what I mean. It doesn't bother me or stop me from doing anything. Anyone have any ideas of what it may be? I have checked several websites but cannot pinpoint anything. Thank you for your help!

So What Happened?

So I went to the Doctor today and he did an exam. He wasn't able to feel anything but decided it would be best if I had a mammogram. I went in for one (so much easier than what I expected) today and had the results before 5. Everything is fine. They told me to completely lay off caffeniene for a week to see if it helps. They said that some woman unfortuantley just have tender breasts. Thank you for your help! Now I can breathe a sign of relief!

I have the same thing! It started in one breast, a couple days later the other was sore. They felt "fuller" also. I asked that question a few days ago and everyone said ask the doctor. All the doctor said was no caffeine and take motrin. None of that helped, so I took matters into my own hands and stopped my birth control pills. Two days later and the soreness is almost completely gone. I don't know if you're on the pill or not, but it may be hormonal. Hope this helps.

I agree with Catherine. Please call your doctor.

I had an issue when nursing my second child, and my OB/GYN didn't mess around getting me a breast ultrasound even though they suspected mastitis.

It ended-up being cancer (Hodgkins lymphoma, NOT breast cancer), but I learned a lot about breast cancer in the process. I'm sure if you make a call this afternoon, you will be seen today. They take it that seriously.

I don't want to alarm you, but please go into your doctor asap to get checked for inflammatory breast cancer. It is very rare, but presents often with signs as you have described. Most likely it is nothing, but I'd have the doctor check specifically for it, as early stages are often missed.

Please, please, please, go see your doctor as soon as you can. My aunt had a similar complaint and it ended up being an aggressive form of breast cancer. She delayed going to see the doctor for a few months thinking it wasn't important, and when she finally went in, she was in Stage 3. She fought it for 4 years and passed away last week. I am not trying to scare you, but if her experience can save a life, I know she'd have been happy. I hope it's just a bruise or clogged duct or something, but please be safe rather than sorry and get it checked out!

see the doc. You might just have bruised it without knowing it. However, you want to make sure that you do not have a cyst or something.

When I was drinking a cappacino a day my boobs hurt really bad. I didn't see a correlation until I complained of constant boob pain, and a friend of mine said to lay off the caffeine. Once I did, it eventually went a way. Also taking Vitamin E helps to relieve the pain.

I would go in to get it checked just to make sure. I had this issue too. The Dr checked everything and it turned out ok. He said it could be hormones. You could be told to lay off the caffeine, salt and a few other things because these can cause thoat issue. Also he said if you are on antidepressants that could be a cause too.

I had a sore spot in my right breast that was similar to what you describe. I went to my doctor and found out it was a cyst. The doctor told me to stop drinking caffiene, which I did, and the pain has gone away. (Caffiene encourages the growth of cysts). I agree with everyone else though, go see your doctor to find out what it is for sure, if for nothing else, than to put your mind at ease and to make sure it isn't something serious.

It could be a clogged lymph duct. If you massage it, squeezing upward and slightly out toward your shoulder, you may get relief.

I had the same thing when my youngest was 6. It turned out to be a milk gland problem. After surgery to remove the benign tumor/cyst, everything was fine. You should see your doctor and have a mammogram to check it out.

You could have an infection, though it is a rare occurrence. I would suggest you consult your physician. There are numerous reasons for breast tenderness - infection, hormonal shift, the dreaded "c", among others. It is much better to consult your doctor to pinpoint exactly what is going on than to try to use the internet to diagnose yourself.
Good luck to you!

I had this too several years ago....even went to a doctor to see if it was anything. All they could say was "probably hormonal changes". Yeah, duh! I could have figured that out by myself for a lot less than a doctor's visit. Also went to have a mammogram (NOT fun ever but even less fun with a sore breast!!!!!) Nothing showed up.

You might have actually pulled some muscles in that area. I know, it seems odd to think that, but it's possible. Like any other place in the body, pulled muscles may take awhile to "heal".

With children around, this is tough I know, but just try this home remedy: Several times a day, place a pretty warm compress (not quite hot but not just lukewarm either) on the tender place. A plain old washcloth will do fine :) You can do this quite easily if you like taking baths. If you're more of a shower person, you can direct the spray onto the affected area. But best of all is the compress directly on the spot.

Try switching to a different antiperspirant. You might be having some mild reaction to the one you're using. Sometimes we can build up intolerances to products. If possible, try a deodorant only....one without aluminum chlorohydrate. Or best of all, check out one from a natural foods/supplements store.
