My son has been on growth hormone injections for 2 1/2 years now. No issues, his rate of growth has been accelerating, and he finally is on both the growth chart and his blood tests register that it's being processed. See the endo 4x a year for checkups, no issues yet. DH is in karate about 3 nights a week, and has a tumbling class 1x a week. Plays 'tag' football during lunch. He's had this level of activity for the past 3 years, so nothing out of the oridinary there. He's very fit, not an ounce of extra fat on him.
Anyway, the past few weeks he's been complaining increasingly of back pain & soreness. I've not paid it much attention. But have made note of it, and the frequency of complaint has risin. In the morning when he awakes, in the evening when sitting on the couch, when walking around...etc. You get the idea. Tonight he seemed really sore so I offered to rub his back. Just the slightest touch seemed to really hurt. As in one finger run over his trapezoid or along his scapula. Gasping for breath and cringing. Any pressure, even just pressing down, seemed painful for him.
I am the queen of chronically sore shoulders from years of playing flute, piano, and working over the computer. And as sore and tight as I am, there is no pressure firm enough ever that will relieve me. Even when I was his age (had been playing flute and piano for 4 years by then.)
Any ideas? If it seemed to be related to his skeletal, I'd be inclined to call his doctor. But it seems muscular. Maybe I'll give a call anyway
Yes, call! My husband had back pain and went in thinking he had a slipped disc....he has cancer that had metastasized to his vertebral bodies. Now my point is that things should be checked out if they don't go away....NOT that I think your son has cancer...I would not guess that!!!! Best of luck...better to just call and see someone to get some resolution!

Yep, give a call. Considering the unusual medical regimen, I think it's the first order of business.

Talk to the doctor who has him on the growth hormones.
Muscles and skeleton work together - the growth of one affects the other - especially with the stretching of tendons and ligaments.
Some of it might very well be growing pains.
Discuss all of his aches/pains and his activities with the Dr.
He'll have better answers than anything we can guess about.

Have you considered taking him to a chiropractor? With all that physical play, he could have knocked something out of line. For me, that usually presents itself as muscle pain.

Yes. Give a call. Doctors prefer calls from anxious mamas to seeing children who needed help long before. You won't be wasting time or money.
