My son has had this problem before but it has been dormant for a year. The only thing I can think is a fever has brought this on. Let me say he has not had a fever this whole 4 weeks just a week before this all began. Anyway----We have seen specialist and have received no real answers. the doc. says it is viral in nature but no Bacteria is evident. Mostly it will have to run its course. The last time we did this for 8 months. He throws up in the afternoon--only liquid no food. He has recently been put on nexium and has not seemed to help. I have tried to trace it to food and no pattern. My question is has anyone else seem to experience same thing and what help if any did you receive?

Did it happen around the same time last year? If so, maybe it is allergies. I would start him on probiotics. It won't help if it is allergies, but it may help if it is gastro-related. I agree that an ENT, may be the way to go.

I think it's time for a new doc to take a look at him. Viruses dont normally hang on for weeks and weeks and all that throwing up could be doing damage to his esophagus and tooth enamel.
You dont say what kind of specialist you took him to but a gastroenterologist should be able to help you. It would also be a good idea to chart what he throws up, the time of day and how long after eating or drinking, how full his stomach was and if he had any reflux, bloating, nausea etc. He should probably also chart what foods he is eating every day. It might give you a hint of any patterns and an idea if there are certain kinds of foods that make him nauseous and others that dont.
My niece had gastroparesis (where the stomach doesnt empty properly) after an episode of mono. After lots and lots of tests and HCl supplements, etc., she tracked her eating and found that she felt better if she avoided gluten. She cut all gluten out of her diet and the condition cleared on its own.
You might also do a web search for something like chronic vomiting or cyclic vomiting (since it happens every afternoon). You might find something that matches what you see in your son.

It sounds like a lot of barfing going on in Atlanta! I would take your child to an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor), possibly there is something biological going on causing the barfing. Maybe something in his anatomy causing a gag reflex. Maybe the fever is coincidental?!?
Also a virus does not react to antibiotics only bacteria. They are two different types of little creatures.
Keep us posted, I'm interested to hear what you decide to do.

I don't know how old your son is, but my brother would throw up the first year of his life because he had reflux. My mom never knew it, but someone told her to take him to a chiropractor and when she did, he never threw up again. If that doesn't help, I would just get more opinions. Something's wrong!
I would also suggest a pediatric gastroenterologist if the vomiting continues.
My son is 11 and he has been going through the same thing. I was told virual at first but it went on still happens sometimes. The doctor put him on prilosec for heartburn. It seems to be helping somethings I do is watch what he eats how much and the times he eats. My son does it in the mornings I try not to let him eat to late. It is very frustrating for me and him, so I understand what your going through. My doctor told me that if the acids in the stomach are higher than usual then it could cause him to throw up. Have you seen a Gastrointerologist? There is a condition called Cricopharyngeal dysfunction...the sphincter muscle at the top of the esophogus does not open all of the way and causes vomiting...the vomiting actually stretches the muscle...I am NOT saying he has this, but it would be worth checking out...I hope you find your answer soon! My son had this happen every week or so in the mornings. I think his was related to mucous, and drainage. Since I have been giving him daily zyrtec he doesn't have a problem.

I second the opinion about chiropractic. There is no telling what is going on and apparently there are no good diagnosticians either. Many conditions are caused by the immune system being compromised and chiropractic care can build the immune system. They understand how ALL of the body works together as one entity. They don't simply treat a symptom.
There are many good chiropractors in Atlanta but I know two clinics that are absolutely great. I don't know where you live but one is in Lawrenceville and one is in Stockbridge. The one is Stockbridge (a husband and wife) is the largest pediatric chiropractic clinic in the state. If you want to go this route let me know and I can get you their name and number. I know the one in Stockbridge will waive most, if not all, initial costs if you tell them I sent you. They care for all of my family!
