Okay this may seem like a strange question, but I believe my son is seeing spirits. Some people don't believe in this which is fine, but for those of you who do. Do you recomend any ways to help him with this so that he knows it's okay and to maybe help him understand as he gets older? there have been two incidents where he has made comments about seeing something I don't, one in particular he did in front of my husband, mother and I on Christmas day, even getting up to find "those guys" who were at teh top of our stairs.

If you are one of the non-believers, please keep your comments kind and respectful when replying or please don't reply at all. This is a very honest request, just looking for some guidance.

Thank you

So What Happened?

Well I have gotten some good advice and some good links to some people I've known about for years, but now it's confirmed I should try to contact them to have a "chat" :)
Thank you to those who responded with such kind and supportive words, I was worried that people would think I'm crazy.
He's such a bright child, and I remember when they put him on my chest after he was born, he turned his head and looked and me, and I said "he has old soul eyes".....and now I know that is true. He proves it to me everyday with the things he learns, the things he does and now apparently the things he sees,

Thank you again ladies and keep the advice or suggestions coming! They are much appreciated.

K.

I firmly believe children see these types of things and as an adult it can seem scary. I do not have any experience but do know of a psychic that I myself have to spoke to before and he is very reputable. Have you ever heard of Gary Spivey? He has a website too. I believe it is garyspivey.com. He made some predictions about me having my children that he hit right on the nail. He has spoke of children seeing spirits before. Maybe you can find some help on his website. Best wishes and love & encourage your son. This is what make our children special in their OWN ways. Good luck!

Sylvia Browne is a psychic who used to be on the Montel Williams show. Here is her website: http://www.sylvia.org/home/index.cfm I noticed she is going to be in CA soon, so you may want to check it out...

There was also a show on tv recently on A&E about psychic kids. http://www.aetv.com/psychic-kids/

K.,

I am a believer. As a young child, I too have been able to utilize my sixth sense. Unlike your son, I can not see spirits, but I can feel their presence. I expressed this to my mom early on as a child and she dismissed the idea. Later I realized it was her own discomfort with this that led to her response. I encourage you to believe your son but let him know that other people may judge him for his gift and because of this, he may want to use caution when speaking about it. As the parent, I suggest you get comfortable with your sons gift and you may even be able to tap into your own abilities. For many this is scary and even I can freak myself out sometimes by knowing that someone entered the room, but rest assured that you will not be harmed. Your son has an amazing ability!

That sounds amazing. I'd be very careful about discounting his experience (or especially letting others do so). I've always explained spirits or ghosts as "just people without bodies", so nothing in particular to be scared of. Take care, C.

Hi K.,

I read your post and had to say something. When I was about 6 years old I would nightly see a man and his dog outside of my bedroom door until finally one night he came into my room and I of course was very afraid but could feel him right next to my bead (I would close my eyes out of fear) as if he was leaning over me. I know this may sound very scary and it was for me at the time but after that I never saw him again. Now when this was happening I would tell my mother "I saw the man again last night" and she never understood what I was saying and I beleive she would just say to me "oh is that right dear" So long story short, until recently, she did not know what I was talking about but just supported me. So my advice would to be to just accept and support your child (which I am sure you already do) It could very well pass as time goes on or he may be just be one of the many gifted people who go on in life with this ability to see spirits. Definetly embrace this and don't be afraid to ask questions, sounds to me like he is not afraid so that is good!
Good luck!
L.

if your son is blessed with this gift, it will be hard for both of you! i have never seen a spirit but i believe my loved ones that have told me they have. he is lucky his mom is taking possible "sixth sense" seriously. i don't really have any advice :) except to maybe explain to him different forms of "seeing things:" imagination (incl. imaginary friends), hallucination, and apparitions, so he himself can try to identify what he's seeing. and then maybe don't make a big deal out of it; lots of people are "born with" a sixth sense, evident at times from the moment of birth with a caul (the amniotic sac) over his/her face, a certain mark on the body, or even being born bleeding (my aunt and female cousins informed me a few years ago that they were "born with their period" and not to be shocked if that happened when my own daughter was born. they maintain that they have special abilities and that this was their mark. different cultures have different ways of "telling.") just treat it as something that some people can do, but that there are others that will not understand.

good luck and DO keep us updated. you are SO awesome to have written us about this!

peace.
