My son is 9 and this started at the end of march (right after his last wrestling tournament) he does this very hard blink in which he nodes his head.It is not just a blinking of the eyelids. It is a very hard blink which involves his eyebrows. He does it all the time, it is not a nervous tic because it happens at school, parties, home, park everywhere. We went to the doctor and she said that it deffinately something neurological. He had an EEG and that was normal, no seizures. But I am wondering if it had something to do with wrestling? He has no control over it. he says that sometimes he feels dizzy which is why they sent us for the EEg. Just wondering if anyother moms have delt with something like this.

What can I do next?

Hi T.
It sounds to me as though a nerve is being pinched and he should see a chiropractor for a adjustment. T. :)

My son has verbal and motor tics that come when a stressful event happen. (They just started this year with his tonsils being taken out.) All of his tests are normal, so we we were told to take him to a psychiatrist. He said that sometimes when stress occurs it will trigger a tic and as things in my son go back to normal the tic will go away. My son's went away after a few months. If the tic lasts for over a year continual then there are other things to address.
Main thing I learned was, not to tell him not to do it, and to not draw attention to it. Just to let my son do it, he couldn't help it. The less attention we paid to it the less it affected him and the less it happened. We just focused on creating a normal environment for him and took the pressure off of him. It seemed to help with my son. He has been a few months tic free.

I agree with Tiffany, I too would try the chiropractor. My mom just had a pinched nerve in her arm that kept making her arm have a tic. She did 4 treatments and she no longers "Spasms" (as we lovingly referred to it).

Maybe ask for a sleep deprived EEG. My stepdaughter was diagnosed with absent seizures. Her first EEg didn't really show much, but the sleep deprived one in the neurologist's words, lit up like a christmas tree.
