My 2nd child has that problem as a baby and it was crusty, we had antibiotic for her
2 different times then she was fine . Now for my almost 2mo old son, i asked his pediatrician about a blocked duct since hes not been producing tears but since they saw no eye crust etc. they wouldnt give antibiotics and acted like its fine til 2months then they monitor it I have tried massaging the corner of eye and also all around from above the eye brow and around toward the nose but hes still not producing tears when he crys . He does gets a slight peice of white goo from the corner of each eye that apears at different times but nothing more. I dnt know what else to do or what will help him. Does anyone know what else i could do especially if its blocked and not a narrowing of the duct tubes etc. And if its a narrowing is there anything thats non surgical to help fix the problem sooner then wait for an office to figure it out or layer say oh we need to do proceedures ?
Ps also does anyone know of either a eye antibiotic you could buy over the counter or one you could make yourself

What can I do next?

Work with your pediatrician. If you don't like or trust your pedi, get another one. Ask if your child should see a pediatric ophthalmologist. A second opinion is never a bad idea, and any good pediatrician will refer you without judgment or anger.

Find out if massaging is a good idea. Rubbing in that area can increase inflammation, or can transfer bacteria from your hands to your infant's eyes. Please see a specialist before you take more of this into your own hands.

Do not, under any circumstances, put a home remedy in a child's eyes. I wouldn't put an over-the-counter product in an infant's eyes either. Even the most basic antibiotic (like erythromycin ointment) is a prescription product, and overuse or inappropriate use is a really bad idea. There are age restrictions on products for a reason.

Work with your doctor.
Tears ducts are for draining tears away - they don't produce tears.
Insufficient tears can cause all sorts of eye problems.
You really want to work with your doctor and not try any home remedies.

As the moms mention below, the duct is a drain the glands that product tears are in your eyelids.

My babies never cried tears so much that I had to wipe them away with tissue or anything like that, so maybe your expectations are a bit off.

I wouldn't massage his eyes. I also wouldn't think of home remedies. That just scares me.

I typically put my trust in my child's doctor, and if I couldn't, I would find a new one.

Otherwise, you will drive yourself batty over the years.

Antibiotics for crusty eyes are typically for infections like pink eyes, etc.

Dry eyes cause things like blurry eyesight, uncomfortableness, rubbing of the eyes, etc. I get it in the evenings and my contact lenses need to come out. It has nothing to do with the ducts. Remember, the ducts drain the stuff from your eyes away like a drain ....

Take him to a pediatric opthamologist. Call now, because it can take time to get an appointment.

NO, NO, NO, you do NOT put ANYTHING in his eye that is not specifically for eyes. And for God's sake, you don't make one yourself. You could cause him to lose his sight in that eye.
