My son is 6 months old and has suffered from acid reflux since he was a newborn. For a about a month now he seemed like he was getting better (not spitting up as much and sleeping a little better at night), but for the last few days he has been crying alot, spitting up this clear liquid that comes up his nose and burns his throat, and not sleeping at all at night (just either crying or wanting to sit up). I called the doctor and they told me to just wait it out that there was nothing they could do since he is already on zantac. I was wondering if anyone knew of ANYTHING I could try to help alleviate some of his pain and help him get some sleep. So far I have tried letting him sleep in his bouncy chair, car seat, laying him on his left side, and gripe water. I would appreciate any ideas.
Take him to a pediatric GI doctor. They specialize in disorders such as reflux. I went through it with my son for 2 years and there were no improvements until we went to the specialist. They have a lot more knowledge of the disease and treatments. I used Dr. Anette Whitney, she is at Medical City Dallas. It was a long drive for us but worth it. Find a new doctor immediately. I have a son that is on Prevacid. He is 9 months old. The acid comes up and the babies can aspirate it. Shame on your Doctor. Zantac won't solve the problem. You need to see a specialist. Is your baby having any problems coughing & wheezing? The acid can cause damage to their little immature digestive tract.
My son had SEVERE reflux and Dr put him on Prevacid and bethanacol or some Dr's use reglan (Sp ?) the prevacid WORKED much better than zantac we took him to a gastro specialist (sp? ) and it really helped him we also raised the head of his bed with books my other son slept in a car seat because he needed to be elevated all the time... good luck - A.
My son had a similar problem when I changed from breastfeeding to formula. We did try zantac, but it didn't help much and it made him really fussy. So we tried an alterative homeopathic treatment. The name of the pill was Ipecacium (or something similar) it is supposed to do the opposite of syrup of ipecac, which means it would stop vomiting. It worked really well. There were several dosage types and at first we got the 30C which we had to give him every day it cost about $10 for about 2-3 week supply. Then once we knew it was working we got the 1M dosage which we only had to give him once a month. We gave him the medicine for about 8mo and now he has no more problems with reflux. have you tried formula w/soy. That worked wonders for my son that had acid reflux from 7 wks old until 11 months and the prosobee lipil helped TREMENDOUSLY

Two of my twin sister's children had this. One more severe than the other. She found not eating Garlic helped a little, but mainly, she would feed her child a little, burp, then feed again. Additionally, she tried not to move her babies too much after they ate. When they were moved a lot, they would definitely let it all out! Good Luck and have patience, it really just has to pass.
