Wondering what should I have on hand so that I don't have to run out. Figuring on ice cream, jello, pudding, yogurt, apple sauce. Anything else? BTW - son is 6.

What can I do next?

My son likes stonyfield smoothies, that was his favorite. I bought a bunch of ice cream and that didn't seem to hit the spot for him. He drank a lot of water and juice (forget what kind).

Tylenol and Motrin. His favorite drinks(not soda though) I don't know how old your son is but mine was just a few weeks short of 3 when he had to have his out he refused to eat the first 2 days and would barely drink he was in so much pain. He just wanted me to hold him,so I did for two days. So I would say have yourself very available if he is still young enough to be comforted by your arms.

No milk products it can cause a film/mucus in the throat that will make it very uncomfortable to swallow. Popsicles and otter pops are better.

It's only a few days until they are eating much better.
My daughter liked masked potatoes, scrambled eggs, maybe some homemade meatloaf, Stay AWAY from peanut butter for at least a week!

Ice pops, BABY FOOD (seriously, like the good stuff, peaches, pineapple, any of the fruits are gooood and give the child vitamins!), and his favorite movies, books, games, puzzles... when I had mine removed, my parents gave me a little bell to ring if I needed anything, since I couldn't talk. I couldn't even go to the bathroom myself because of the pain meds. Make sure he can communicate with you... can he write yet? Maybe keep a pen and paper handy too. Good luck!! He'll be fine mama :)

popsicles worked better than ice cream for our son! I think it was more than 10 days before our son tried much more than what's on your list....& he was silent for days.

My DH built a wooden playhouse/car & train track for our son's bedroom prior to surgery....it was our lifesaver! Our son lived in it, even took naps in it. Too late for you to build....but maybe a play tent would keep him happy!

My son had his out (and adenoid as well) this past February.
It is painful, so make him as comfortable as possible.
I had 2 humidifiers running in his bedroom, lip balm at the bedside, constant ice chips, ice water.
He lived on pancakes for about 5 days.
Jello, popcicles, applejuice.
The medicine they will give you to administer kind of burns, so follow immediately with ice chips or a slushie.

The first 5 days are the worst, once you get through that, he will be o.k.

Don't skip medicine doses and make sure he is ultra hydrated.

My son just had his tonsils out too. We were told no milk products for 48 hours. What got him through the first week was popsicles and ice chips. I also froze a few water bottles and he drank little bits of water as it defrosted. Good luck!
