My 10 yr old is crying and complaining that his heart beats fast when ever he stands up but is normal when sitting or lying down. We have been to the Dr. at least four times in the last year for this, and with all the tests they ran they don't see anything abnormal. Anyone else experience this? What do you do?

What can I do next?

Just wondering, has he seen a cardiologist? I am assuming your doc would send you to one, but sometimes you have to request it. I haven't heard of anything like this, but my friend has problems with tachycardia, and sometimes it is painful for her. :( Has he had a stress test?

Hi mom-

I would ask to be seen by a cardiologist...and also request a 'holter' monitor. Your son would be 'hooked up' for at least a period of 24 to 48 hours...he would keep a log of the times of his activities...and after the designated period of time prescribed, the monitor is returned...and down loaded...

Best Luck!

Does your son ingest caffeine at all throughout the day, even in small amounts? I notice this sometimes happens to me when I drink caffeine - even a small amount could do this to a 10 year old. If he is ingesting any, dry cutting it out for a while. (Remember, even chocolate and other things contain caffeine).

Have you seen the same doctor all four times? Maybe it is time for a second opinion from a different doctor.

Good luck to you!

My almost 9 yo has the same problem. Except hers is less frequent than whenever she stands up. It happens about 10 times a week. And she doesn't have to be active - it happens when she is sitting there reading, also. We are going to see a cardiologist. It worries me that they've run tests, and haven't found anything in your son. Did they do all the things like EKG, MRI, etc.?

I will let you know what they say about my daughter. Maybe it's something they haven't considered for your son and it will help.

Blessings.

What tests did they run? Just hooking him up to an EKG may not be enough. If it happens when he is standing up he may be experiencing a vasovagal response. Or it may be POTS postural tachycardia syndrome.
Did they do the tilt table with him?

I would keep looking into it.

has he been hooked up to a monitor? My sis has used a monitor a couple of times in the past few years for her tachycardia.

Seek help from a pediatric cardiologist......
