Hello Everyone
My son just started day care and when we take him in the morning I give the teachers his breakfast. When I pick him up in the afternoon his breakfast has not been touched. I am not sure what is the best way to ask questions. I don't want to offend any of the teachers or get them mad. I am just concerned that my son is not being given his breakfast. Please help how should I handle this.

What can I do next?

Could be a problem with the daycare-definately check into it to be sure. Or it could just be that he is very distracted-not wanting to eat because the other kids are playing. Have you tried feeding him at home in the morning? As soon as we get up in the morning we get breakfast ready for her and plop her in the high chair in our room while we get ready. She eats most of it-then we save her favorite(a banana) for when she gets to school. that way even if she is too distracted she has already eaten, and if she is still hungry she cant resist the banana.

Maybe you could ask your son if he ate breakfast? Maybe it's against their policy to feed the children outside food and they feed him their food? I wouldn't hesitate to ask.. if you don't, who will? I would just say something along the line, "I've noticed that he hasn't been eating the breakfasts I pack for him, is he just not a good eater for you guys or do you offer him something else?"

Good luck! Also, if they have ever given you a reason to feel as though you can't talk to them, you really should find a new daycare. I babysit out of my home and I encourage parents to talk to me. There should always be an open line of communication.

I have found that with daycares that you need to just put it out there politely but with a tone if you have to. I have horror stories in our past with my son and daycare...which is why my second child never attended a daycare in her life.

Depending on the daycare, they could be overwhelmed or just not caring enough to be sure the child is getting what the need during the day.

You are your child's only advocate. Speak your mind and don't hold back!!

When you drop him off mention that he has not had breakfast yet and it is in his bag. If it still looks untouched, just ask. He is your son and you have the right to know everything about his care. That being said, I understand you not wanting to cause tension between you and the teachers. Simply ask in a non-accusing manner. If they get offended about you asking about food then you need a new daycare.

My little one just turned three and goes to school three days a week. For some reason he rarely eats breakfast on school days yet eats all his breakfast on days he stays with me. I think he takes after me and has a bit of a nervous stomach. If I have anything "special" going on I don't eat as much and have to go to the restroom before I leave the house. By "special" I mean any thing from a doctors appointment to going out with friends. Nothing I'm truly nervous about, it's just my stomach. We are also still working on potty training, mainly going poop on the potty. I think my son knows if he eats more, he poops more and he doesn't want to poop at school.

Just don't hesitate to talk to the teacher. They are working for you after all, and helping take care of your most important asset.

Hello, I am a licensed in home provider and have been doing child care for 16 years. Please do not worry about offending the staff, a good day care will be there for you and your sons needs, thats what you pay them for. It could be a small fixable problem. I am on a food program and am not allowed to feed the child any outside food and still claim that child for that meal. If I do have a child come in w his/her own breakfast I let them eat it and offer them something to go with it. If the child does not want what I offer I just simply dont claim him/her for that meal. The childs needs come before anything else. It is your child any you are paying these people to take care of him. Coming from a provider I wouldnt be offended by your requests :)
