Something Special for Him

Something I've done every year is give dad a book with the kids' foot print in it. This is a book that they'd enjoy reading with him....special time together and we have one for every year so it shows how they've grown. And something I did last year is I went to Walmart.com and selected all his favorite songs (these were ones that reminds him of the kids or that he listens to with them but it could be anything) and had a Daddy CD made for him. And either one of these or both could work with the scavengar hunt idea that was brought up too!

I would send him out on a mini scavenger hunt. This got rave reviews from Dad and all his friends, as well as the employees at the stores he visited, on his birthday one year. I started it by calling and saying that I had forgot the movies that I had paid for at Hastings(local video store) and could he swing by and get them for me. I let him know the name of the cashier that had them tucked back. When he got there he got instead a gift for him we had purchased from that store along with instructions of where to go to get the next item on his mission. The kids were involved with the planning and ours included favorite movies, work out gear, tools, candy & popcorn for movie night, games, couple of ties, silk boxers, picture frame with photo already included, bottle of wine and the last place was the restaurant where all his family & friends were hidden upstairs as his final surprise. Several of my friends have used this on anniversaries and birthdays as well. You could even choose a theme with camping or sports items in the morning and on his return home have everything packed and ready for a day of picnicing or fishing or overnight camping somewhere close. Whatever you chose have a great time.

One thing my family does is every few years we do a Fathers day T-shirt with all of our handprints on it. We put the date and year as well as our names under the handprints. It's been fun to see how all 4 of our children have grown. From itty bitty babies to big hands of a 16 year old.

My hand used to be the biggest one. Now my son's (13 & 16) hands are the bigger. I can't wait to see if our girls (5 & 7) have bigger hands then me in a few years!

One year, I purchased one of those spa pedicure kits with 'the works' in little travel size containers. My husband would never go to a spa to get a pedicure, and he would never go and have a massage by a pro. Over his initial objections, we (our daughter, 2 sons, and I) prepared everything for his pedicure. i did most of that although they helped some. Then we made him lie down, and we all got lotions and massaged his back and neck and legs and shoulders. It helps to time it so no one stops early. He LOVED it, and he felt very loved too. The kids were just thrilled as well.

If you like to camp how about another camping trip that includes a scavenger hunt with the gifts along the way ...Your kids could def get excited about this as well...
We did this at an anniversary party one time...it was so much fun clues were all over the city, and at the end the prize for the couple who completed all the task and figured out the puzzle. Once he figures out where to go the kids could then hand the next clue with each clue he is given a small token of being a dad... fishing lure, baseball cap, whatever might be and at the end have the kids with a sign YOU ARE THE GREATEST DAD...

Something that we do in our family is homemade coupons. Since your kids are old enough you can actually have them hand write them and decorate each one in their own style. For example: each of the kids can come up with coupons to give Dad that he would enjoy and he can redeem whenever he'd like. Take out the trash for Dad Day!
Wash Dad's Car Day!
Give Dad a back rub!
Bring Dad breakfast in Bed!
Stuff like that......

What about a massage/spa day.

Don't know how far it would be for you, but that new Wolf Lodge in Grapevine sounds cool and I know your kids would like a night there. I think I saw that they had summer weekend packages. You could check and see.

We are going to make a 8x10 frame with 2 pictures one of dad with the boys and one of dad with his princess and on the Top of the frame we will simply put DAD:
then out beside each picture we will put a son's first Hero and a daughters first Love.

Hi. That Great Wolves (spelling)??? Lodge in Grapevine was advertising a package awhile back for a night in their hotel/and passes to their indoor water park for 4 at $199- which seems like it would work good for your family of four and a "mini" type vacation if it's not too far off for you. I've seen the hotel, it's HUGE, and really nice and I'm sure has a nice place to go out to eat in the evening after a long day of playing at the water park. I have 5 kids, so it would definately be more of a chore for us!!!

I don't know exactly where you live but if you live close to Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Nature Center is a great place to hang out for a day. Lots of walking and hiking. Lots of trails to walk on and lots of nature to see. My family and I love going with my family. Very reasonably prices too ($4 an adult, $2 kids)

Here are a few ideas. Each one of you write him a letter why he is so special and put a specific outing on said day. Example: Son can look into a baseball game(Firsco Rough Riders), earn money to purchase tickets and maybe pick a t-shirt for him and dad and have a special message put on it to wear to game as father and son. Son plans the details so his letter can name the specific date, time, location for his Father's day gift. Daughter can fix him a special breakfast at home or take him to IHOP by earning the money. Then take him to a driving range and hit a bucket of golf balls with him then possibly $1.00 dollar movie. Amanda although you both enjoy camping, you can spend a weekend at a Hotel, include a massage and dinner for two. As for a family gift how about cookout either steak or burgers and a movie under the stars at 9:00pm. Unless you have a projector and use a sheet to show the movie outside you may have to set your tv and VCR outside and run a long extension. Set up a sitting area outside with bench, ottomon, pillows or spread a quilt on grass and pillows to lay down on or prop up on. Make your very own carmal popcorn with favorit nuts. Hope these are a few good ideas you can use. P.
