I accidently put a red kitchen towel in with a load of light colored clothes. Needless to say I have a lot of pink where I do not want it. Somethings like old towels I do not care that much about. THey can be pink. However there was a sweater in there that is grey with white stripes that my daughter just bought for school. I do not want to bleach it and ruin it. I tried saoking it in color safe bleach and then rewashing it. I tried soaking in Shout and then rewashing it. I have not dried it, only washed it. Any suggestions on how I can save this sweater? Thanks is advance for any suggestions.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I soaked it id tide stain releaser. Then washed it with a color catcher. Not sure which one did the trick, but it faided a lot. Still a slipgt pink tint, but not noticable to someone who is not looking for it. Thanks for all the help.

This happened to me a while back. I tried everything to get the colors out without success. I did see that Carbona (?) in the laundry aisle now makes a color run remover. I bought a box and keep it on hand just in case. (It's been so long since I had the problem that I got rid of the clothes in the meantime so it is not like I could try it on them.) I also invested in a Carbona reusable color catching cloth. They are about $3 a piece and are good for up to 40 loads. I have went through a few and they do catch a lot of color. Color that I never knew transferred...

Rit has a dye remover. Wash the sweater with the dye remover and it should come out..it can be found at the grocery store right along with the other clothing dyes. If you have not done so yet, don't dry the sweater.

BTW the Shout color catchers work awsome for catching colors while in the wash but I don't know if they will remove dye from a previous wash....

Hmmm you could try dissolving a Tide Stain Release in-wash booster action pac in hot water (I usually use my largest mixing bowl for this lol) then soak the sweater in it for an hour. Wash as normal.

Grandma's Secret Spot Remover is pretty good, but it's more for spots & not for an entire sweater.

If you know someone who uses Melaleuca products in your area- get in contact with them- use prespot, sol-u-mel, and then wash with Mela-Power.

Hydrogen Peroxide. The bottle from the store for about $1. Spray it on the sweater, let sit for 10 minutes and then wash. I believe you put about a cup of it in the load and wash. It won't hurt your clothes and will take out stains. I just used it to get out the clay on my son's baseball pants and it worked great!!!! Good Luck.

In my experience, gray (at least the heather gray types) does not usually bleach, so you could try testing a tiny spot with bleach, and see if it's colorfast. If so, bleach the whole darned thing!

Have you tried Oxyclean full strength directly on the pink areas? Sometimes it works for that kind of stuff...

Shout color catcher does work after its already been washed. Wash on warm or hot and put on extra rinse cycle.

Shout has something called "color catcher" laundry sheets.
Maybe try that.
Google search it.
It is to prevent color runs and traps loose dyes in the wash.
