Okay I'm not a mom, but I'm scared and my parents are dead and I'm 18 and I don't have any money to go the hospital, but my cycle started a few day ago and everything was fine but I was cleaning my room (My parents bought the house) and I feel something weird and I went to bathroom and when I looked there was a clot and it was huge, it was just bigger then an egg and my pad was soaked, so I cleaned up and went back to what was doing, I was not in any pain so I through it was fine, but a couple hours later it happened again, and I'm scared so please help the best way that you can, because I don't know what to do, right now I feeling kind of sick, but no pain still.

Update: Nothing happen last night, today its still going on but the clots are big but not as big as yesterday and now pads are not as soaked but I don't feel sick anymore.
and there is no way that I was ever pregnant I have not had my first time yet.

Update: I called Planned Parenthood they were busy today so I have a appointment for tomorrow at 8:30AM.

What can I do next?

Please go to Planned Parenthood. They have a sliding scale for payment and they will help you get whatever medical help you need.

I experienced similar things like what you describe. Really heavy periods some days. When I was 21 or so, I was wearing a tampon and a regular pad for perhaps 30 minutes when I had blood streaming down my leg. At times, I had lots of blood clots. Dr. said not to worry. This happens to some women. Fast forward 10 years, when I had exploritory surgery and was diagnosed with endometriosis. Not much was known back then. Because I often had so much pain that I couldn't go to work, I had surgery to remove as much endometrium as possible. Then I had pain from scar tissue.

I also suggest you see a doctor. I also urge you to try to not be so scared. It's most likely you're OK.

I suggest you make friends with an older woman, perhaps a friend's mom so that you can talk about things and be reassured.

You can be seen by a county clinic and only charged what you can pay. I went to one when I was unemployed and paid nothing. Planned Parenthood is smaller and may be easier to be seen.

I thought everyone can have insurance with the plan Obama signed. Have you checked into that? My brother is unemployed. He had insurance coverage without paying until he started receiving SSI (Social Security because he was disabled),.if I remember correctly. Once he had an income he did have to start paying.

You don't have to be a mom to be on this site.

Clotting is common with heavy periods, and it can also occur during a miscarriage. Sometimes there is cramping when this occurs, but not always.

If your parents are dead, there must be someone you trust and look up to. Friend? Neighbor? Aunt? Teacher?

Call the Planned Parenthood 800 number. If you live in Louisiana, you may find that your state legislators have cut off funding to local clinics, as they have in a number of states. But you can still call the 800 number and run your symptoms by a trained counselor.

Do keep track of how much bleeding - how long does it take you to soak through a regular thickness maxi pad? This is the kind of question any doctor will ask you. You can also call any local hospital's social service department and find out about health insurance that's available to you based on income. This is a free service.

Good luck. Make a call and don't be on internet sites for this.

If it keeps happening, go to the doctor. Are you filling up more than one pad per hour? Drink a lot of water. If you keep passing blood clots tonight or if you are filling up more than one pad in an hour, you are probably going to have to go to the doctor tomorrow.

Planned Parenthood offers cheap OBGYN services. Planned Parenthood is NOT just for abortions. Find one in your town.

Hi L., I am sorry to hear about your parents, and how alone you must feel at your age, living in an empty home. Do you have any relatives, like aunts, that can assume a motherly role for you for advice and such things? Or maybe a friend's mother? As to your question, you may suffer from PCOS. I do and I have heavy bleeding and large blood clots that manifest whenever I have my period (menorrhagia is the correct term for heavy periods with clots). Even their buddies "nausea", "extreme bloating", "gas", "diarrhea", "migraine" and "extreme exhaustion" pay me a visit, usually all together (no fun) and then it's a real party! Sometimes, I can feel the clot pass if it's rather large, and it is quite the uncomfortable feeling. Other things that can cause heavy clotting and bleeding are uterine fibroids, endometriosis, changes in weight, or a change in hormonal levels, which can include hormone medications like the birth control pill. I agree with others below that if you don't see an ob/gyn, then you should at least visit a clinic like Planned Parenthood for diagnosis.

Without getting too graphic - if you do heavy lifting or even exercise that time of month, it can cause more to come out (I believe). Something to check with a doctor or nurse about. I like the suggestion of going to see Planned Parenthood (or equivalent) in your area. Better to ask and to be checked then to worry. I doubt it's serious - but if you're asking on the internet, then better to ask a trained professional who can actually check you out. Good luck

several years ago before i had kids, i was in a similar situation. periods were all the same till this one time i had big clots.. i called my dr. she told me to take a pregnancy test. if it was negative. to moniter my period and stay hydrated, and if i became dizzy from the bloodloss to visit the er. if it was positive then i was to call and make an appt so she could make sure the miscarriage was completed and a d & c was not needed... in my care the test was negative, and after resting for the remainder of my period everything was fine.
so call your dr, nurse, or planned parenthood and get REAL medical advice.

It's probably a good idea to see a doctor just to be safe, but this isn't really all that unusual. The more physically active you are, the heavier your period will be. Also, it's quite normal to feel nauseous during your period. Nausea and cramps go hand in hand with the monthly cycle. Fun :-)

L., if you have no money there are free and low income clinics that will see you. If you can't make an appointment with a doc then please go to the ER. Blood clots aren't anything to dismiss. They are usually serious issues. Even the ones that are in the female area.

Please just go see a doc as soon as possible. Ask an aunt, cousin, sister, friend, neighbor, pastor, someone that can help you find a way to see the doc.

Go to planned parenthood. They are there to help in these situations. Unlike popular belief they are not there to abort babies they are there to help women in need.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I was 22 or 23. I didn't know if it was a miscarriage or something else. Out of embarrassment I didn't check on. I was at work when it happened and was scared but didn't mention it to anyone. Just go to planned parenthood and talk to someone. They will be able to give you a pregnancy test and or tell you what is going on. Good luck!!

My periods were awful from the get go. Heavy periods with clots. I would encourage you to make an appointment with a GYN. Maybe you can start taking some hormones to help regulate you periods. I know that as I got older it got worse. I had Adenomyosis. After having my children they finally did a hysterectomy. You are young, and hopefully will want to have children. So I would talk to a doctor.

"Adenomyosis (ad-uh-no-my-O-sis) occurs when endometrial tissue, which normally lines the uterus, exists within and grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. The displaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it normally would — thickening, breaking down and bleeding — during each menstrual cycle. An enlarged uterus and painful, heavy periods can result.

Symptoms most often start late in the childbearing years after having children.

The cause of adenomyosis remains unknown, but the disease typically disappears after menopause. For women who experience severe discomfort from adenomyosis, certain treatments can help, but hysterectomy is the only cure."

Hi Lena! First I want to tell you I am so sorry for the loss of your parents. I share that experience but at a much older age. Its good that you reach out for advice and I for one am glad to provide mom info that might give you info to help you with deciding on what to do.

Regarding the clots, it is probably Ok, but if it is the first occurence of this, then you should go to an Dr. I say it is probably Ok because I had this all of my menustratve years..... long ago now! From early on I had a very heavy and extremely crampy periods with clots. It seems my doctor explained that the clotting was a of lining of sorts that sluffs off and exits during our periods. I learned many years later that I had endmetriosis all along. My cramps were severe every period until I had a hystereçtomy at age 33. My uterus and all but a bit of one ovary was removed with hopes that the remaining piece of ovary would keep me from needing to take hormones. Two years later I had to have the remainng piece of ovary removed too as endo had returned causing pain. Again, although its probably Ok, I would still have an examination and get input from a Dr. as there may be other reasons that can cause clots.

Wishing you regular and pain free periods forever! You take care Lisa!
