My daughters are 13 and 15. The 13 year old got diagnosed at age 2, and the other at 12. They are very outgoing and friendly. We attended Sugarfree kids thru the Helwig Diabetes (the kids get to connect AND the parents get to connect - I learned so... much there) and Camp Red Jacket which is at Cedar Crest college for about 4 days (no overnights). I think it is in July. You can call Helwig for info on both. My older girl was a volunteer counselor last year and the other one attended. We also went to Washington DC for the Childrens Congress. Children are already selected for this year, but there will be another one in 2 years. You can't get anything more powerful than that, 200 amazing children and youth al together, and motivated to fight for a cure. Imagine a room full, with pump alarms going off and no one looks at anyone funny. You see the kids quietly get up, take care of it and then get back to business. My younger daughter is very brittle and missed 49 days of school last year, while the other is as solid as a rock. I don't work outside of the home because of the younger one. I also go on all field trips, because her blood sugars go bizar with any stress or excitement. I'm divorced because their Dad is abusive, which also sends her blood sugars wild, and I struggle to make ends meet. Feel free to call me, ###-###-####.
We live in Emmaus.
