What can I do next?

i second sara's advice, most work from home 'opportunities' are scams, and ANY time you have to pay up front to do it, it's BS. try temping instead.

Most work from home are indeed scams. I would go down to unemployment and take the classes they offer for free. Make use of the time you are at home. Not sure what your normal wardrobe is but go down to good will and get some items that are more business attire. Unemployment office have programs that help with this as well. I was out of work for 5 months, As a single mom its hard lived off spagetti for a few weeks to save money. Other's do not really understand unless they have lived it. If you have made poor choices you are going to have to start from the bottom up again.Hope you find a job soon. Also those children over 18 can help as well. If they are living at home they need to be paying rent.

Have you signed up at temp agencies? I've found 3 good jobs through temp agencies. You can either work temporary through them, or temporary to permanent, which is what I did. I've been laid off 3 times, and each time I signed up with as many temp agencies as possible.

Perhaps for you doing some temp work, and doing a good job could get you some good references as opposed to whatever your previous two jobs would say about you.

I would say most work from home jobs you find are going to be scams. Unless you decide to say, take in an extra kid or two to watch during the day. Good luck.

Well, without knowing your background/education/line of work, it's kind of hard to answer. However, I would look into things like being a nanny or babysitting a child or two in your home. Be a driver for an elderly or disabled person. Run errands or do odd jobs for people. Walk dogs. Apply for a waitress job, barrista, retail. Be a maid and clean people's houses.

Remember - work doesn't have to be fun, glamorous, exciting or fulfilling if you are truly in a desperate situation. It just has to provide a steady income. Don't think anything is beneath you. Times will change and you'll be able to move on to something you like better down the road. Good luck!

call the community number in your area 2-1-1 or google NJ2-1-1 and they should be able to refer you to any job sources or job training in your area that could check into. You could also ask for resources to help with resumes, job interview skills, etc. Good luck!

Work at homes are scams 99% of the time.
Definitely look into temping!

Also consider babysitting, sewing, and home health care (non medical stuff) try Comfortkeepers or similar agencies.

Good luck to you!

There are home businesses that could work for you but you have to be good with people. Able to speak easily to people and sell a little. Not obnoxiously, but not be afraid to get the word out. You must be able to talk to strangers and willing to learn about your product. If you think this is a possibility for you and you are willing to work at it then I would be happy to send you a name of someone who might be willing to train you. Totally legite!

Welcome to mamapedia!

I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation. It's great to hear that you acknowledge making bad decisions. I'm sorry that the previous positions ended on bad terms. That can be hard to shake.

On this board, we get moms asking about making more money, working from home, etc. I can tell you that the majority of the work from home "opportunities" out there are scams. If you have to pay for the training - scam. There is one site - hiremymom.com - i think that's it - that you have to pay to use. From what I understand you are paying to be promoted, etc.

When you work from home - you are WORKING. No one is going to pay you to take care of your child at home. Sorry.

Since I don't know your background, education and experience, I can tell you this:

Please check with your local unemployment office.

Then go to websites like ADtemp.com

I know Appleone.com is always looking for staff. So instead of trying to concentrate your efforts on working from home - look where you KNOW you can get income.

If you are serious about working from home - then start selling on ebay and craigslist. it's NOT stable income, but it CAN be income. There are plenty of people who go to Goodwill and buy stuff, clean it up and turn around and sell it on ebay. Go to garage sales, spend a little money and clean it up and sell it on ebay.

Good luck!
