Somebody to Help with laundry...not Really I Just Have Stains.

I used to live on the northend around Karl Rd. and I never had to use stain remover on my laundry. From spitup to spaghetti stains all I had to do was pop the clothes in the wash and viola! We now live in Gahanna School District but still have Columbus water. My clothes have never been the same since the move. Where my Mom used to brag on what a good hand I was to do laundry she has made a point of letting me know that our clothes don't look as nice. (thanks Mom) I believe our water comes from the Hap Creamean Plant (spelling) since it just up the road but I would have to check.

I need help with what works best for stains and general brightness of clothes in this area. My daughters have sensitive skin so I am less than eager to just run out and buy any old stain remover. My biggest problem right now is my son's football uniform. Right now he just has practice gear and I want to be able to take care of his game uniforms better than them. I can not get the grass stains out and his pants look tan compared to every one elses. So help with how to treat them since I can't use bleach would be appreciated from anyone.

Basically, nothing comes out of my clothes when I wash them and it is not the washer's fault as I have an extra one and I have switched them out a few times. BTY-Oxyclean does not work.

What can I do next?

I haven't tried any of these, but these come from the "Talking Dirty Laundry with the Queen of Clean" book by Linda Cobb. She says to pick one and try it, but don't machine dry it until the stain is removed.

1. Sponge on rubbing alcohol, repeating several times. If the stain persists, sponge with white vinegar and rinse. Work in your favorite laundry detergent and rinse well.

2. Rub white nongel toothpaste into grass stains. Rub well, then rinse and wash as usual.

3. For jeans, apply undiluted alcohol to the area and allow to soak 15 minutes before laundering as usual.

4. Zout and Spot Shot Carpet Stain remover also work very well on grass stains. Follow the label directions.

Some general things to try:

Clean the washing machine... fill the washer with hot water. Add 1 qt. of chlorine bleach. Run the washer through the longest wash cycle. When the washer is still wet--add 1 qt. of white vinegar and run the washer through the same cycle again. Do this every 3-6 months.

hey C.!
the best for "baby" clothes and even adults is dreft stain remover. i also found that ZOUT works great and no irriation, at least with my daughter and i used "baby" laundry soap ever since she was born, she is now 4yrs old. BTY-it's the water out there!
good luck:)

When my son was an infant, a friend recommended "Totally Toddler". It is specific for baby & food stains. The only drawback was that it is a prewash. I sprayed it on, let it set, then used a small amount of soap, & scrubbed. Then, sprayed another small amount right before washing. I know this sounds like work, but it worked for me. I did it while my son was playing in the tub at night or after he went to bed.
