I just wanted to let everyone know that my son is 5 month olds now. I think I am getting responses about feeding so early b/c I still have him in my "about me" as 3 months old :)My son is doing great on cereal (and always wants more than 2 tbps!) I'm just curious how soon after introducing cereal, you introduced veggies??? I think I waited a month between with my girls, but our dr. said you can start right away if they are doing fine with the cereal. just curious what otehr mom's are doing.

So, I know I have two other children and do daycare...but for some reason I get dumber everyday :) I can't seem to remeber how soon i introduced veggies to my other kiddos? I started my little boy on rice last wknd ( 3 days), then oatmeal (3 days)...and yesterday started feeding him oatmeal in the morning and rice in the evening. He LOVES it! In fact, loves it so much he is often still looking for it once it's all gone. I usually give him a bottle afterwards (he is on formula now). My question..should I start stage 1 veggies now or should I wait until he has had cereal a bit longer? I can't remember what I did with my girls. :)He is doin ggreat with the cereal but i don't wnat to do anything I shouldn't. We don't have a history of food allergies in our family either...although we do have asthma in the family. Anyway...just asking. Thanks!

What can I do next?

my son was rice cereal at 4 months then veggies and fruit at 6 months but the time he was 7 months old he was eating 4-8 oz of baby food per meal (3 times a day plus baby cereal morning and night) the standard is 6 months for veggies and fruits some kids take to it like my son and others really don't want anything to do with it. meats are 9 months.

Honestly I would hold off on any food if your signature is correct and your little one is only 3 months old. But I guess as long as he isn't having issues you may as well start him on baby food as soon as he has eating off of a spoon down. I gave cereal once and now just use it to thicken the baby food I make for my son. Besides a little iron there really isn't any nutritional value to the cereals.

Usually it's recommended that you don't start ANYTHING until 6 months of age...I personally disagree, it just seems like way too long to wait but that is the recommendation. I had to start my son on cereal around 3 or 3.5 months because of his reflux and he did fine. I started plain pureed veggies around 5 months [peas and sweet potato mixed into cereal] and he did fine on those. I was hesitant to try anything else however because I was did not want him to develop allergies.
Food allergies develop from being exposed to a certain food too early and the body builds up an immunity to it. The earlier, the more risky. Even if you have no family history of allergies there is still a risk. Another concern with starting them younger is that by feeding them, they will not be getting the much needed balanced nutrition they usually get from breast milk or formula. And the fact that their digestive system simply might not be ready.
I think since you've already started the cereal he will be okay, but I would wait on the pureed foods until 6 months just to be safe. And even then, there is an order they should be given based on the baby's developing digestive system. Check out this website it is awesome and has everything you will need: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/index.htm
And here is another site about starting solids:

If you plan to make your own food, definitely do not buy canned foods to puree. Frozen fruits and veggies are just as good as fresh nutritionally, but watch the salt contents even in frozen foods because some of them have added salt.

HI! I started my lil one on rice cereal and baby oatmeal at 3 1/2-4months of age by 5 months old i started him on solids. I started with baby applesauce for a week. Then a week later i introduced another fruit etc. I started my lil on stage 2 fruits and veggies... I would go ahead and start him.

I am also a mother of 3 and a daycare provider. I do agree with the post about not starting solids until 6 months of age and I will tell you why. With my first 2 kids I started solids before 6 months and they are to this day the pickiest eaters. With my 3rd I waited until 6 1/2 months to start cereal and until 7 1/2 - 8 mo to start food and he eats ANYTHING. I also have seen this pattern with my daycare kids. The ones who have started on cereal early are super picky. Children have many more taste buds than adults do and I think once they get a taste for something they don't like, it sticks with them. It could have nothing to do with when you start them on solids but to me it seems to be too big of a coincidence. Good luck.

My oldest started solids at 5mos (homemade applesauce) and my youngest started at 6mos (oatmeal). I made their baby food so after a couple days of oatmeal and htem getting used to eating from a spoon, I intro'd some homemade fruits. they only had one meal a day for a month or so, by 9mos both were eating table foods, whatever we were eating chopped up.

If he's doing well on the baby cereals, then give some fruits or veggies a try. Good first foods are applesauce, mashed avocado, pureed peas.
