Have any of you ever used or own Sodastream, Is it a good product, and is it worth the $75 dollar price tag? I got a gift card for Bed Bath and Beyond, and my husband saw a commercial thought this might be something we could get. Just wanted to see if you had heard of it?

What can I do next?

My husband was looking at one of those too. When we found them in the store, though, and actually started looking at them, we discovered we weren't all that excited about the artificial ingredients they contained. (I know, pot calling kettle black, since "real" pop is all artificial, manmade stuff too.)

We also didn't see very many flavors for regular pop; found a lot for diet pop (and we don't do artificial sweeteners). We started pricing up the price of everything that would be needed to make the pop and decided for what little bit we actually drink soda that we could just buy a can or a bottle here and there.

The initial cost for the machine is $75.

Then you have to buy the accessories, the flavors, the other stuff that can easily add up to well over $100 that doesn't last very long. I am not really partial to imitation flavors either.

I think if I was given one I might use it a time or two but if it wasn't super super simple and really cost effective it is just way too easy to buy a 12 or 24 pack in a box to drink when I want a Dr. Pepper that is fresh and yummy.

I just saw it in a HyVee store. Totally silly. :) I haven't tried it. I'm already too hooked and don't keep it in the house. I can only imagine how much weight I would gain.

I just got one today after seeing it at bestbuy and LOVE it!!! It's totally worth the price! And even the co2 tanks are only 15$ so not a lot! Get it and enjoy!
Added: the flavors are even better for you the reg soda, they don't have as much stuff in them

Heard of it, bought it for my college-aged son (because he wanted it). He's tried a couple flavors so far and seems to like it. If you stick to making your soda's and not buying the regular brands, it will pay for itself in what you would otherwise pay for the regular brands but just not over night/right away.

We don't drink soda, but my husband LOVES carbonated water and bought one of these last year. It has already paid for itself many times over.
I was skeptical at first (especially since my husband just loves the latest gadget lol!) but if you drink a lot of any prepackaged carbonated product I'm sure it would be worth it.
Merry Christmas :)

I have one I bought 6 years ago. I love love love it. I really like to drink Selzer water with a bit of lemon and the soda stream makes it really easy. No more hauling heavy bottles from the store and man what a reduction in trash. That alone is woth the money. I also get the diet ginger ale mix and the diet orange soda mix. One tip : I always use up both of my carbonater bottles before ordering a refill, shipping for 2 is a much as just for one bottle.

Personal opinion.

I am not good with gadgets like this. They are expensive and continue to be expensive, and take up space.

I also noticed that Walgreens was having a special on Coke products 3 -12 packs for $10.00.. That is 36 cans of soda for only 10 bucks. That is 27 cents a can.. That is about 2 cents an ounce..

Just seems like one of those toys your child sees on TV and only play with it a few times. And then they spend hours with the box instead.

I got one last year. It is ok. Im not a huge soda fan, and did not realize that all their drink mixes have Splenda in them. I get bad headaches from Splenda. My kids like the rootbeer. They have come out with "natural" flavoring that is ok. It has a weird aftertaste. We have tried it with just the water and Mio drops (you can get them in the grocery store in the water flavor packet section). That is pretty good. If you just like carbonated flavored water it is great with just a little lime or lemon squeezed in it. Ive noticed you can buy Coke syrup at Sams or Costco and we have been tempted to buy a box of that just to try it. Havent yet though.
If I were to buy it again, I probably wouldnt. Just my 2 cents.

I have one and love it. I'm not a huge soda drinker but if I crave it, I can make it instantly and it tastes fresh. I have never tried the soda stream flavors. I use Williams Sonoma flavors and they have very few ingredients. You can flavor your water with anything you want. Vanilla, fresh fruit, agave sweetner, etc. You can use syrups from coffe shops or I have heard of people buying the syrup bags of Coke and using those. If you have a Smart N Fianal near you, they have lots of fun flavors.

One CO2 cartridge gives you 150 cans of soda water. If you take the empty cartridge to Williams Sonoma they recycle it and charge $15 for another one. All you do to use it is fill the bottle with water to the squiggley line, twist in onto the machine, press the button 3 times for a little fizz or 4 times for a lot of fizz, untwist the bottle and add whatever flavors your heart desires. Simple. Fun. :)

I had thought about getting this for my husband but when I looked back on it it did not seem cost effective. My husband did not even know about it until we went to his brothers house a week ago and they had won it from the office party. So now hubby was talking about it all night and how he wanted one. I was explaining to him that I did not think it was worth it because the C 0 2 tanks were kind of pricy. then you have to add the flavor. It is nice that you can have "fresh" soda (like it still has carbonation. saying fresh makes me thing organic. yeah soda not organic) and that you can refresh it but I think that will make you go through c 0 2 very quickly.

i heard about this on the bob and tom radio show they make it sounds so great, but personally i don't drink pop that often and really should cut it out completely. I'm glad you asked about it though and i'm glad youve gotten such great responses.

I got it last year as a gift...more expensive then. I drink a lot of Seltzer water, so for me it was nice just to be able to whip on some Seltzer water when I wanted it. I don't use it nearly as much now and I don't care for most of the "soda" flavors.

My husband drinks a ton of soda and I like sparkling water on occasion. (I like the fruit extract flavor too!) It is not only cost effective, it also produces WAY less waste than a regular soda drinker would! One 500mL flavor bottle makes the equivalent to 33 12oz cans so you do the environmental math: one container to recycle vs 33 containers to recycle!

The bottles you make the drinks in last about three years, so again the waste is far less.

I just paid $4.99 per bottle (plus I used BBB 20% off coupons to make them $3.99 each), and I think I pay about $3 (when they're on sale) per 12-pack of Coke Zero for my husband. That's more than double the price compared to Soda Stream!

We have saved money and waste in the two years we've had ours--my brother and parents have them too!

Ditto Ann! My husband wanted one because he wanted to save money and make non-artificial sweetener diet sodas. What we discovered is the cost of the machine is actually good but the ingredients that the Sodastream company sells and/or the ingredients my husband wanted to use would make the sodas as expensive as the cheap ones we buy now. (My husband flavors club soda with a pomegranite or blueberry or cherry extract and adds a touch of stevia for sweetness.) I didn't want another gadget on the counter that wouldn't save us money.

My two cents!
