So, You Have Been on a Disney Cruise Before...

We are considering a Disney Cruise with three children from 18 mos to 5 yrs. After reading about the Disney cruise online and other requests here, I appreciate that there are many activities for the kids. But, are there lots of activities for the families to do together?

Also, any insights for cruise length? I wonder if seven days could be too long for little ones to break from the comforts of their normal routines. Do any parents stick around in the kids area? Thank you for sharing your experience and insights.

So What Happened?

Wow. Thank you for the fast replies and all the insights. I am so excited to do the Disney Cruise for our family but I think we should wait until our youngest is a little older. I loved the two-way radio idea; we'll plan to do the longer cruise and definitely look to do some of the reservations on the trip as soon as possible. Thanks, Ladies!

How exciting!! My husband and i took out daughter who was 3.5 on a the Disney Wonder 4 day, 3 night cruise in January of 2003. There aren't enough hours in the day for me to tell you what a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL time we had--pure pefection!!! I'll try to hit the major points: Disney absolutely puts that "magic" in the cruise. Your service will be top notch. You won't ever want to go on another cruise ship because their service is SO incredible! There is SO much to do for the entire family your head will spin! First off--length of cruise? We were SO saddened that we did NOT do the 7 day. By the time we finally learned how to find our room again on this monsterous boat without getting lost it was time to pack up and leave :-( If you are going to spend the $ for a Disney Cruise I would highly recommend and encourage you to do the 7 days. You can actually unpack your belongings and get settled in and feel like you have some time to breath--and have plenty of time to take in everything there is to do instead of trying to cram it all into 3 days like we did. Children are very resilient and usually bouce back quickly. 2nd: The kids club is absolutely WONDERFUL! The older kids love to stay there and if you have a very outgoing younger child, he or she might really enjoy it, too. My daughter got to have a real tea party with Wendy! We were trying to drag her out of there one night at close to MIDNIGHT--she didn't want to leave she was having so much fun. It did take a day for her to get used to it, but once she did we got to enjoy some adult time. 3. There is an adult-only restaurant that takes reservations and fills up VERY quickly. If you are interested in having a relaxing evening with your husband, make your reservations for the restaurant as soon as you get on the ship. Your children can go to the kids club and you can enjoy yourself with an adult dinner, knowing that they are well taken care of. 4. Take Dramamine or consider the sea-sick patch for everyone--just in case. You don't want the trip ruined by anyone getting nauseated.
I could go on and on and on.......we are actually planning on taking another one in the next 2-3 years. My husband is the one that REALLY wants to go back and he is very anit-vacation at times! If you'd like more info or details you can send me a message with your questions and I'd be happy to fill you in a bit more. You won't be disappointed with your decision and will have a fantatic time!!

I have not been on a disney cruise, but someone I know just got back. they do not allow children who are not potty trained in the pools. not even with the swimmer diapers. they said that made things difficult. they had two small children..one that could go in the water and one that could not. so, you might want to check that out before hand. maybe wait until they are all out of diapers!

The Disney Cruise is great for children. I took my 7 year old in 2001. They have non-stop activities for the kids until close to midnight. We took 2 way radios for communication. They provide a pager for the parent in case you are needed. The security was tight to get your own kid back. The 3 day cruise was after the 4 day land package. It was enough for us. The last day was spent on Disney's private island, Castaway Cay. I had to make my child come w/the rest of us.

We didn't experience many family events. They CATER to the kids. We did get to see Disney movies and have bingo for the adults. Maybe things have changed.

You do have to pay about $7 for a mug if you want anything to drink in instead of water. The food was great.

I hope that helps,
L.

It is great! The are the best and they know how to take care of you. We did the 4 day, 3 night about 5 years ago and would love to go back again soon. They take care of the kids of all ages and you eat in a different resterant every night but your waitstaff follow you around. I would highly recommed it.

we are going on the disney 7 day in the middle of June. If you want.. I can tell you when I get back. Stuff that we didn't know before hand is... you can only reserve the nusery for a max of 10 hours for the whole 7 days. You can book more when you get on if available. Your child isn't allowed in the main pool if not potty trained.. they do have a tot area. So honestly..those things were a big deal for us..we are going w/ my whole extended family..so we are the only ones who have the little kids..but knowing all of that.. I might have gone on a carnival w/ no rules as day care and did disney world parks the other part of the vacation. That be told... the Disney Cruise is supposed to be fantastic and the best around.. so I am hoping things will be that great for us. Good luck.

Disney is absolutely wonderful!! My kids are teens, and we still go on cruises with Disney, we've been every year for the last 4 years. We are doing Carnival this year, but our hearts belong to Disney! There is a lot to do both on board, and at the ports of call. The little ones will have a great time visiting with the characters....Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale, Goofy....etc. There is something to do every day,and every night, so you never get bored. The food is good, especially the welcome aboard buffet, the ship is very clean, and the staff is excellent....they make sure you are satisfied!! You are going to have a great time!

I have been on two Disney cruises. One was seven days and one was the shorter cruise. Both are great but I would definitely recommend the longer cruise. We were on the shorter cruise this past March. My son is 2.5 and my daughter is 5. You have to be 3 to go in the kids club where the bigger kids go. My son would not go in the baby room so my husband and I would go with him to the club where the bigger kids were. They do not mind you hanging around. My son is still in diapers so he had to stay in the splash area which is still great. He also was able to go in the mickey ears which are two little pools. There is so much going on you and your family will always be busy.
Have fun!
