L.,
Pregnancy was always exhausting to me, and I used to marvel at those fortunate women who described feeling healthier and happier than ever before!
Many women describe feeling sleepy and exhausted during the first trimester, and some of them experience dramatic improvement during the second semester. I hope you are one of those women!
In the meantime, there are a few things you can do.
First, of course, check with your ob/gyn about this problem. Issues such as anemia or gestational diabetes can cause problems with fatigue during pregnancy. Testing can identify problems that need to be monitored throughout your pregnancy.
To give yourself a boost of energy far healthier than a cup of coffee, pick up a box of something called Emergen-C. It's sold at Wal-Mart, Walgreens and many other drugstores and is almost always stocked in the vitamin section. The cost is around $10 to $12 for a box of 36 packets.
You simply mix a packet of fizzy powder into a glass of water. Each packet has something like 32 mineral complexes like potassium, calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, and Vitamin C -- so it's all natural and a great natural energy booster. These happen to be the same things your body really needs during pregnancy.
These things come in several flavors. There's my favorite, tangerine, but a lot of people seem to like pink lemonade. (way too tart for me!) Some of my friends like to mix the packets with juice for extra nutrients.
Everyone I have told about this has agreed that it actually does make you feel better. My mom, now in her 80s, was beginning to run out of steam, losing much of the energy that has enabled her to continue to live on her own. She has been taking these drinks since Christmas and feels so much more energetic than she did in the fall.
As I age, I find myself becoming more and more easily worn out during busy work times and these fizzy drinks often give me just enough energy to make it through physically and mentally challenging weekends at work.
There's no panacea potion which will magically cure all ills and give you a vibrant burst of energy during pregnancy, but give this product a whirl. I think you'll find it will do far more than coffee without the negative side effects!
I wish you a happy, healthy and successful pregnancy. :)
