I have posted some questions about TTC, and no periods for years. Asking you wonderful ladies opinions. Well here it is:
Every little girl dreams of becoming a Mother someday, but will that someday ever come? Will her dreams come true or will they be shattered by constant miscarriages, let downs, or just the plain female parts not working? Well, I am about to tell you the story of my life. I first menstruated four days before my 11th birthday. I was the girl who would miss the first 2 days of school at the beginning of every cycle due to overflow and cramping. I had severe PMS. I was never regular! Years pass. My hubby and I got together in 1999, and married in May of 2002. We started trying to conceive in April 2003. After years of abnormal periods, I was having issues. I finally got pregnant in Nov 2004, and delivered in Sept of 2005. We started trying to conceive again in Oct of 2006. In May of 2007, I experienced severe bleeding, that lasted well over a month. After going to the doctors within 2 weeks of experiencing this, I learned I was pregnant, but the baby was not viable. I was devastated. I did not even know I was pregnant. Was this my fault? We decided to wait some time for my body and my mind to heal. How long would this take? Here I was again, missing a month here, and there. July 2009 was my last period. In August of 2009, I found a lump in my breast. I called the doctors, but they were not too concerned. It grew and grew till Sept 13th, I ended up in the ER to have it lanced and drained. It grew 15 times the size of a pea within 2 weeks. This was no ordinary lump. It was the size of a fig. My dear Mother came to my house twice a day and unpacked it, and packed for 4 days. All I could do was think about the pain all day. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced. I still had not had a period. This just baffled me, but maybe it had to do with the trauma I had experienced with having surgery? In June of 2010, I was still without a menstrual! Finally, I called the doctor. On June 30th, 2010 I was told that my FSH level was 140.7. What does that mean? It meant that I was going through menopause. I had no ovarian function. My female parts were giving up. I asked, “Is there a chance, any chance I could ever get pregnant again?” The answer was, “NO.”
I left that office feeling like a failure. I am only 31 years old. Menopause? This can not be!
In Sept 2010, I returned to that very office, and had my levels checked again. Nothing had changed! I was experiencing every sign of menopause you could imagine. The hot flashes were unbearable. I decided to do some research. I started taking some herbs for my hot flashes, and they worked! I am not here to tell you what I was taking, but let me tell you, I knew when I would forget to take them. On Sept 17th, 2010, I decided at that time to give up fast food for good. I did not eat it a lot, but hey, lets see if I loose weight. I felt really good. This is where the story gets good. Tues November 16th, I am at my mothers having dinner, and I start cramping. I thought nothing of it. My body is whack! It went away within a few hours. Wednesday, I was fine. Thursday, I get a cramp. I mean 1 cramp. I go to the bathroom, and there it was. The period I had not had in 16 months. What in the world is going on? I immediately call the doctor. Friday I go to have my levels checked again. One week later, I get the call. Doctor says, “So what is going on, and what have you done differently?” I told her about how really nothing had changed (I never thought about the fast food). She informs me my levels are fantastic! I went from a 140.7 FSH to an 18 FSH. HUH??????? Wow! Okay. She then tells me to get on prenatal, and to get ovulation tests. Wow. This is happening so fast. Friday evening I watched the Movie, “Super Size Me” for the first time. There it was! Fast food causes reproductive hormone abnormalities, polycystic ovarian syndrome, impaired fertility and lower back pain. All of which I had! Duh. It has been 2 months since I had my levels check, and since I had fast food. Now, lets just see if I can finally become pregnant! Think about it.

****ADDED****** actually NO, I ate Fast food maybe once a week, and sometimes once every 2 weeks. I did not eat it all the time! I will never eat it again.

What can I do next?

Out of all the health advice posted on here, just about the single most important thing you can do is to quit eating fast food- ALL of it, but particularly any fast food beef. It's beyond disgusting! Google "pink slime" and read the NY Times article and tell me if you'll ever eat FF burgers again!

Hi C.---I am a wellness educator, taking a series of classes taught by a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. Our diet can positively or negatively impact every function in our body. I have articles on studies that show how trans fats impair fertility. I believe another one has to do with soda's doing the same thing. Unfortunately, in this day and age, our heatlh is unwittingly compromised by so many things, it is impossible to determine what the problem is. The totality of our diet and lifestyle factors dictates our health potential.

I have all sorts of great info that I can share with you that may help you to learn why this has happened to you and ways that you can continue on your journey to better health. Good job and keep digging. Thank God for medical doctors, but they don't know everything. Unfortunately, very few of them know of the healing power of food...or the damaging effects of it either. Good luck and I look forward to talking to you. Be well, D.

WOW! I am a big believer that what we eat affects our body WAY more than we think it does. Huge connection between nutrition and health. Fast food, junk food, soda, sugar-all evil! People seem to think as long as they keep these foods within the caloric range of what they should be eating they will be OK. Many popular diets (WW being the biggest) advocate this mentality. People are led to believe that you can have that 100 calorie piece of trans fat junk b/c it is only 100 calories. When it is in fact the CHEMISTRY of it and how it reacts in our body that is killing us and also making us fat. Eating CLEAN is the way to go. IF you must indulge-make it the best quality that you can. You are better off to bake a batch of chocolate chips yourself than to eat Chips Ahoy for example.

Also-doctors are extremely relutctant to talk about this connection with us for whatever reason. You will really need to do the research yourself on the connection between food and health.

Good luck to you in getting pregnant!!!!!!!

Our bodies work in mysterious and wonderful ways, don't they? All of us should take a 50/50 role with our medical professionals. They know the science but we live in our skins 24/7 and have a lot of knowledge when it comes to our own road to well-being.

I believe what we pump our bodies with absolutely effects how they work.
People get cancer earlier now, menopause earlier, periods earlier and earlier, age earlier...this is no coincidence. My niece's generation, if the first generation, where their life expectancy is younger then the one before. How sad.

I'm so happy, that your body feels better. Way to go!! That's such awesome news. I hope you conceive soon and have a wonderful pregnancy!!!

Love it . . . I'm a big believer that our environment (what we eat, breathe and inject/insert into ourselves) is causing all kinds of health problems in our society. Our children's ever-increasing developmental issues are just the tip of iceberg.

Good luck and good health.

I imagine you were eating fast food a lot more often than you let on if it is the sole reason for all of your problems. Fast food is not good as your primary source of food, we eat it maybe once or twice a month, and the only bad side effect was to our wallets.

That being said, I wish you the best in trying to have a baby! Good luck!

Wow, so glad you found this out and shared it with us. I think we turn a blind eye as to just how bad some food really is... I like my 2-3 times a month fast food, perhaps I should turn some of that into subway or something better.
