So Bloated!

I'm only 100lbs, so when I get bloated, I get BLOATED! It looks like I'm 5 months pregnant! This has been happening more frequently lately. I keep a pretty balanced diet, but I don't drink a lot of water. I drink iced tea all day. Think it's a water issue or what? How can I prevent it, and how can I fix it when it happens? It makes me feel crummy, and unsexy.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am milldly lactose intolerant and have been eating A LOT of cheese lately. I wasn't aware it could cause bloating though. I'll pay more attention to the dairy and see if that helps. Thanks ladies!

It could be a couple things, as other people mentioned keep a diary of what you are eating. It is a common symptom for gluten intolerance (celiac's disease) and ovarian cancer, so you really need to go find out what could be causing it, because it could be serious.
I hope not, but better safe than sorry and to have peace of mind.
Best wishes!

That has been happening to me alot lately also. I ate different things everyday last week. Two days made me very bloated---the one thing each day has in common--doritos!!! There is a perservative in them that I have now been tested for and showed a sensitivity to. It's probably a good idea to get food allergy testing done. Keep a food dairy for a week or two and write down what you eat and when the boating happens and that should help you pinpoint the problem. Best of luck!

This is my problem-I'm 115lbs and was constantly bloated-I took wheat(gluten) out of my diet and it helped tremedously. I started eating spelt, exekial and brown rice pastas. I still have some whole wheat here and there and even the white stuff just rarely. I also have been taking Acidophilus with Bifidus(from the Vitamin Shoppe) for about a year-it helped, but now that I took out the wheat I really don't need it anymore. Try staying completely away from lactose products for a month and see what happens-that may be your sole issue-and if not then try taking out gluten or wheat.

Water and a lot of movement. Tea retains water.

Bloating can be cause by a number of different things; hormones, food intolerances/allergies, food intolerances such as lactose intolerance, certain foods such as cabbage and brocolli; medical conditions such as tumors, etc. I recommend that you make an appointment to see your doctor.

When you're bloated do you also feel gassy? Simethicone might help. It's OTC in the same area as other digestive aids. Carbonated beverages help my body release the gas. However, carbonated beverages cause some to feel bloated. If you use a straw to drink you may be ingesting too much air. Chewing gum can do that too.

I don't think it's a water issue. Tea is a liquid and will keep you hydrated. Even if you didn't drink enough fluids you wouldn't get bloated. You could become dehydrated.

Lactose intolerance is a common cause of gas and bloating. I'd start by eliminating all dairy products and see if that helps. My grandfather and father were dairy men. Turned out my father and I are both lactose intolerant. What a bummer! :):)

If trying some simple measures doesn't help, see your doctor.

No, the tea isn't an issue, if anything it helps you to lose water, not retain it. But watch the salt intake and that will help tons :)
