Snoring - Crockett,TX

My husband snores all of the time. It doesn't matter if he's on his back , side, or stomach. I am so sleep deprived. We do not have health insurance, and the over-the-counter sprays and nose strips have not worked. He doesn't have allergies, so thats not the problem. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

M.,
My husband and I have the same problem. He snores so bad! He can be on his back, sides, or stomach and its awful!! But recently he has been proping up at night, from his shoulders up, and that has been helping a whole lot. He stills snores a little, but not as bad. He too has tried all the sprays, and nose plugs. Nothing has helped, but proping up. He is going to have the sleep test done next month to get it taken care of. So maybe your husband can try proping up. I hope that you find something that helps your husband. I know how ya feel. If he tries my advice let me know how it works out. Wish the best of luck!!!

It sounds like to me that he has Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I know that you do not have health insurance, but it may pay off for you and him to have a sleep study performed. He is probably not sleeping well either. Going on a CPAP machine could solve all your problems. I know my aunt and uncle slept in separate rooms for years because of your very problem. He was finally diagnoses w OSA, put on a CPAP machine and they all sleep better NOW!

I know you say allergies aren't a prob - my hubby snored awful - so did my son - I go a air purifier from ORECK for the bedroom and snoring is GONE except if hubby drinks!

I know people who have their tonsils and adnoids (sp?) taken out for this--or for other reasons and it helps this. But it might be really expensive with no insurance--so I don't know what the answer is! :)

My hubby has sleep apnea, and he also uses a CPAP machine. The study and the machine are pricey. Though his snoring is better, we still have issues with him feeling fatigued throughout the day.

We were watching the news last week and saw a report for a new out patent procedure called "pilar" sp?? The dr. injects something into the nasal passage and voila...all is good. Not sure if that is the case. But my hubby is looking into it. The news report said it cost, "2K" for the procedure. Again pricey, but the upkeep on the CPAP is also expensive. Plus my hubby hates sleeping with it and he also travels for work so he has to lug a spare CPAP around with him.

My best to you and your hubby.

Well, it sounds like a clear case of sleep apnea, especially if he is even a little over weight (although that is not always the case, it is usually!!) Without insurance, you would have to pay for a sleep study in order to be able to get a CPAP machine that will control the airflow. My husband is a sleep study technologist, so I could tell you just about anything you wanted to know about getting a sleep study done. I have also heard that chiropractic care can help some, but I am not sure about that if the true problem is apnea and not just sinus problems. If he snores so bad that it keeps you up, check to see if you notice that he is quiet for a little bit, and then seems to gasp or breath hard for a second. Also, how tired is he during the day. The big problem with apnea is that it is constantly depriving the brain of oxygen for several seconds at a time, and in one night of sleep, that is a lot of trauma to the brain and the heart. Please do all that you can to have this checked out. It may seem like just annoying, but it can be a serious problem that can have major health consequences. ~ A.~
